Pieman1410 Posted May 24, 2009 Report Share Posted May 24, 2009 Im a bit of a computer noob, so i just want to get some clarification before i buy Windows Vista 64-Bit so i can use all my ram, e.t.c. instead of justwasting the money.Would i have to download different .exe files to get a program on vista 64 bit? or could i use the same ones as 32 bit. Thats all i wanted to know, and if theres any more information that i might want, please post it :)Edit: Does anyone know a good network card? or would the one on the main board be fine. -pops- Posted May 24, 2009 Report Share Posted May 24, 2009 This is an old article but it is still very relevant:http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/1426/vista_...ion_x64_vs_x86/64 bit doesn't appear to have caught developers imagination as much as it was thought and a 64 bit system can cause you a lot of problems, especially if you are new (ish) to computing.I've built a few 64 bit systems for other people but, my own machines are still 32 bit as I don't see what big advantage 64 bit will offer me. CurlyWhirly Posted May 24, 2009 Report Share Posted May 24, 2009 I'm running the 64-bit version of Vista Home Premium and have had no problems whatsoever.However I believe that the 64-bit version of XP was troublesome mainly due to lack of driver support. scrum Posted May 31, 2009 Report Share Posted May 31, 2009 Most home use of Windows can be easily done with a 32 bit version. 64 bit is more for database, video editing and other large file handling tasks that require more memory and addressing space.
