-pops-
What are the opportunities if you open "Display" from Control Panel and click on "Appearance"?In my versions of XP there are several choices of styles, colour schemes etc.Note: you can also access Display if you click on a blank area of the desktop and then click on Properties

-pops-
Any possibility of a System Restore to a time before this happened?Or a restore from your system backup?
Belatucadrus
Not sure why its happened, but try opening System properties, Select the Advanced tab and click the Performance Settings button. In the new Performance Options window, check out the Visual effects tab, If its set to "Adjust for best performance" or "Custom" you could try the other options "Let windows choose what's best for my computer" or "Adjust for best appearance"

-pops-
Regarding a re-install, make a backup of anything and everything you wish to keep. You could attempt a "Repair Install" which should repair the system and retain all your files and settings. Don't rely completely on it being able to do this - I have had it fail on me.http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/h...ips/doug92.mspxhttp://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
