Ethernet cable

Recommended Posts

Hi again, I don't know what all the types of cables are, e.t.c. cat5, cat5e, cat6, patch, crossover. I was just looking for some help to understand and pick the best cable to use for wired internet, (router-computer). Price doesn't really matter, as the most expensive cable i have seen wasn't really budget breaking. Thanks for your help!

For standard router -> computer connection a CAT 5E patch cable is all you need - of a length suitable to you.

No need to spend a lot but avoid the cheaper ones if you are thinking of doing a lot of connecting/disconnecting as the connector clips tend to become brittle and break after a lot of use.

You must NOT use a crossover cable. This is for special computer to computer connection uses and will not work for the purposes you need.

Wasn't a cable supplied with the router?
