heinz57g
XP fully updated only last week, but since then i cannot activate/deactivate any of my networkconnections at all. any of the 5 that are there (normally: right click -> ACT / DEACT)up comes an error field '' ... Error Disabling Connection" - "It is not possible to disable the connectionat this time. This connection may have one or more protocals that do not support Plug-and-Play, orit may have been initiated by another user or system account ... '' there IS no other user but me, never has been.luckily both WLAN as well as the standard LAN are ON, so i can use computer normally, but at timesi need to turn them off or turn on a VPN, and right now nothing works.nothing else on the computer seems to be affected, and nothing major (but WIN updates) was changedpast few days.any ideas?greetings - heinz -
heinz57g
nobody here who can at least point me into the right direction? have in the meantime checked all 'services' with a old mirrored copy - all of them are exactly the same and in the same position.greetings - heinz -
-pops-
Apologies if we appear to be ignoring you. Please be reassured that this is not the case, it must be that either no-one is able to offer a meaningful reply or that our networking specialists haven't been online and seen your thread. Please bear with us a while longer. Dencandy
I'm certainly not a network expert, but this link to Microsft Help & Support might help: NETWORK CONNECTION PROBLEMS. If not try typing something like "network connection problems XP" into the search box on that site.
Hb_Kai
I know that sometimes dodgy firewall connections can disrupt connections. It's probably a long shot but maybe Windows update the firewall or something and it messed with a few things?Probably not the case but the majority of time, especially when it comes to network connections, it's better to be safe than sorry :lol:Another two things are .dll file errors or replacements or maybe a group policy messing something up?EDIT:-Also, try reading this forum thread which I found on Google and see if it's helpful. http://www.velocityreviews.com/forums/t488...connection.html
heinz57g
dencandy, i have tried all MS helps many atimes. they all seems to refer how to set up/repair/adjusta working or non working network connection, which is NOT my problem: both WLAN and LAN workfine. what does not work is the activation/deactivation of network connections when i need it.hb kai, no firewall at all, no group policy or similar. and the tip in the other forum also does notapply, as i have no such setting in the BIOS.but tks to you both for trying.still lost - heinz -
Hb_Kai
Google knows much on the subject at hand.http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=E...mp;oq=&aqi=There is also one thing you can do that Microsoft offer live support, you can ask them to ring you or this can be email/chat support or you can download an RAT program so that they can view and control your pc while they look around to figure out what the problem is.This is free one time I think or it may be two. homecomputeraid
It is good to check the Windows Event Logs for any clues. Right click on My Computer then click Manage from the menu that comes up. Click the + sign next to Event Viewer and check all of the logs after you receive the error starting with System and Application logs. Look for any entries that appeared around the time of the error. You could also try to identify the offending update by going to Start, Control Panel, and opening Add or Remove Programs. Be sure to check the Show updates box toward the upper right. An "Installed On" date should be to the right of any updates. You could uninstall them and reinstall them one at a time until you find the culprit.
