XP fully updated only last week, but since then i cannot activate/deactivate any of my network

connections at all. any of the 5 that are there (normally: right click -> ACT / DEACT)

up comes an error field '' ... Error Disabling Connection" - "It is not possible to disable the connection

at this time. This connection may have one or more protocals that do not support Plug-and-Play, or

it may have been initiated by another user or system account ... ''

there IS no other user but me, never has been.

luckily both WLAN as well as the standard LAN are ON, so i can use computer normally, but at times

i need to turn them off or turn on a VPN, and right now nothing works.

nothing else on the computer seems to be affected, and nothing major (but WIN updates) was changed

past few days.

any ideas?

Apologies if we appear to be ignoring you. Please be reassured that this is not the case, it must be that either no-one is able to offer a meaningful reply or that our networking specialists haven't been online and seen your thread.

Please bear with us a while longer.

pops, sure i will. have been living with it for a week++ now. lucky thing was that both WLAN as well as LAN are actually

turned on, so i can use both. but not deactivate them, or activate for example firewire or a VPN.

I know that sometimes dodgy firewall connections can disrupt connections. It's probably a long shot but maybe Windows update the firewall or something and it messed with a few things?

Probably not the case but the majority of time, especially when it comes to network connections, it's better to be safe than sorry

Another two things are .dll file errors or replacements or maybe a group policy messing something up?

EDIT:-

Also, try reading this forum thread which I found on Google and see if it's helpful.

dencandy, i have tried all MS helps many atimes. they all seems to refer how to set up/repair/adjust

a working or non working network connection, which is NOT my problem: both WLAN and LAN work

fine. what does not work is the activation/deactivation of network connections when i need it.

hb kai, no firewall at all, no group policy or similar. and the tip in the other forum also does not

apply, as i have no such setting in the BIOS.

but tks to you both for trying.

still lost - heinz -

Google knows much on the subject at hand.

There is also one thing you can do that Microsoft offer live support, you can ask them to ring you or this can be email/chat support or you can download an RAT program so that they can view and control your pc while they look around to figure out what the problem is.

This is free one time I think or it may be two.

It is good to check the Windows Event Logs for any clues. Right click on My Computer then click Manage from the menu that comes up. Click the + sign next to Event Viewer and check all of the logs after you receive the error starting with System and Application logs. Look for any entries that appeared around the time of the error.

You could also try to identify the offending update by going to Start, Control Panel, and opening Add or Remove Programs. Be sure to check the Show updates box toward the upper right. An "Installed On" date should be to the right of any updates. You could uninstall them and reinstall them one at a time until you find the culprit.
