catgate Posted September 15, 2009 Report Share Posted September 15, 2009 The main thing is that they should be connected to your computer.!Those that are part of the motherboard i.e. part of the rear panel will be powered.Those at the front/side etc. may be connected by cable to a socket on the mother board. I use the front ones for my memory sticks and camera. The one I bought was able to use two of its own ports without the extra power being on - provided there was sufficient power available from the main port (in my case there wasn't). I have bought a few more of these hubs since. Note that they aren't of a fixed design. The first one I was sent was black with the sockets arranged 2 x 2.
