I need help with xp os.

hello,

I have a old laptop and the os corrupted so i brought a new pc. I was tidying up the other day and i found my old laptop and xp pro iso disk and i set the pc bios to boot from cd and put the disk in but it just comes up with a little dash in the top corner that flashes and does not do any more, i have tried to use my external cd drive (bios as usb boot) as well and that just come up and says no bootable device.

I have even tryed it on my new laptop and the same happens,

PLEASE HELP ME!!!

hello, thanks for all the replys i have looked at the disk and it is not a iso disk it is a full windwos disk for xp pro and it is not a bootable disk.

It is a os insterlation disk, the os on the laptop is crupted and i want to reinstall the os to it how do i do that? i can not boot to install after booting and any way i dont know how to install after booting.

How do i install the new os from the os disk?

also just out of intrest how do i install a os after boot?

hello,

i have tryed it on 2 laptops and i found that the one laptop has a broken cd drive so that was no good but i tryed it on a computer with a cd drive that i have used earlia today to open media in vista and wehn i try to boot from the cd it just comes up with a likkle underscore that flashes in the top corneer and yes the laptop is set to bios cd boot.

PLEASE HELP

Are you able to access the BIOS? If yes, what does it say about the hard drive?

i can access biso yes.

hard drive is no 2 in boot sequence but it just boots from cd i get a flashing underscore so i finds the disk.

PLZ help me fix this!!!

I have never used a recovery CD so not sure how they work, question is is the broken CD drive on the laptop you are trying to restore? if so is it possible that as the recovery CD can't find the recovery partition on the other computer it has nowhere to go?

i just curious.. can we boot OS cd using externel cd drive that using usb?

Depends whether the motherboard has "legacy USB support" - that is motherboard having its own USB drivers rather than depending on Windows for them. Some boards have this support, some do not.
