-pops- Posted October 25, 2009 Report Share Posted October 25, 2009 Due to an EU ruling there was going to be a Europe only version of W7 that was without Internet Explorer.This requirement was relaxed by the EU commission (probably when they realised they were making fools of themselves) and the version of W7 available, at least in the UK, is the same as anywhere else - even so, the box is marked ROW.I've installed 5 copies of W7 of various flavours now and they are all marked the same and are all complete with IE. -pops- Posted October 25, 2009 Report Share Posted October 25, 2009 Alan, the idea was that the European edition was to be without any browser in it at all and the installer was supposed to obtain (buy or burn) a browser onto disk and install that subsequent to the installation of the O/S.What a daft idea!! Designed to put people completely off buying the new product.At a previous instruction from the EU commission regarding IE in XP, they ordered Microsoft to offer a version without IE. I think I read somewhere that the number of these versions sold could be counted on the fingers of one person. I would have thought the commission would have learned from that well, perhaps they did - too late - W7 is the same worldwide apart, perhaps, from the printed matter (labels and stickers) that still mention the ROW and Euro editions.
