Windows 7 and Explorer window size

There is one feature of Window 7 that I do not like. Explorer always remembers the size and position of the last window you close. I cannot find a setting which enables you to fix a particular windows size and position for various windows.

For example - with XP I had Explorer set so that if I selected "My Pictures" a large window opened to display loads of thumbnails. However - if I opened "My Videos" I had set a smaller window to open because I only had a few files to display.

Furthermore, to simplify my desktop, I have placed shortcut folders there for groups of similar items, such as financial links, office programmes, Forums, computer utilities etc. Some of these folders have only a few icons inside - some quite a number - so I was able to previously set an appropriate size for each window when you clicked on the desktop folder.

I cannot do this in Windows 7 - if I reduce the size of the window for a desktop folder - the next time I open say "Pictures" in explorer, a small window opens. Conversely - if I open and then close a large window in explorer that size is then set for my desktop folders.

A good Googling indicates that I am not alone in not liking this behaviour and the only suggestions I have found involve paid-for software tweaks of dubious merit.

I'd love to hear of any proper solution to this crazy issue. It annoys me intensely.

Alan, you are always on the ball, please keep us posted with your findings...

Much as there are many improvement in Windows 7, I too have found one or two things that I intensely dislike.

Post them here - someone just may have a solution.

Despite the odd niggle - I am very happy with Windows 7 and can easily forgive the few idiosyncrasies I have found.

Agreed, just small niggles here and there. I wish I could speak face to face with someone from MS and get these points accross. :D

As you've been using Windows 7 for a while perhaps you could have a look at my problem here?

Cheers.

This link took me to the FORUMS page.

It took a while but I have now solved my problem with Windows 7 not remembering the individual window sizes for various folders.

I downloaded the ShellFolderFix from Click here .

The download link is at the bottom of the first post in the thread by Tweaker.

I have used the tweak for a few weeks and it has solved my problem.
