Acronis 2010 Users - Please Read This..........

I needed to restore my Windows 7 computer this evening (Don't ask why!!!!) using back-ups taken with Acronis 2010. The computer was refusing to boot into Windows after some self inflicted twiddling.

I used my trusty Acronis Emergency CD - created some time ago with Acronis 9. It refused to read the newer back-ups. I do not have an Acronis 2010 CD because I bought the download version.

Fortunately I was able to create a new emergency boot CD on my wife's computer - which worked perfectly and restored my computer using last week's back-up.

Hence this is a reminder for anyone who has been careless like me - if you are using a downloaded version of Acronis 2010 - make a new Emergency boot disc - AND DO IT NOW.

Addition:

You are also advised to create a new Acronis boot disk whenever you install a new version of Acronis (e.g. update Acronis True Image 9 build #3854).

When installing XP-SP3 last year, I took an Acronis backup beforehand, and had the good sense to test the restore procedure before going ahead with the install. I used a boot disk made with an older build number of Acronis True Image 9. The disk wouldn't recognize the backup file made with the newer build!

I downloaded Acronis 2010, and saved it to two different USB pen drives and to two plug in hard drives, then made a new boot disk. I am a belt and braces person. Messing about with new programs, I was not happy with the results, so used the new boot disc to load my back up. No problem. :D

andsome, don't forget about the "Try & Decide" facility in Acronis 9 and 10.
