win 7 no audio output device is installed

Hi, i have installed windows 7 and have no sound, it says- No Audio Output Device Is Installed. My notebook is an HP 510 and the sound card is- CPT5910a, conexant AC-Link Audio. When windows 7 scans for problems it sais hardware changes might not have been detected and it also sais you'r sound card isn't working properly because a compatable driver isnt available with this version of windows.

If you are running the 64 bit W7 then you are stuffed, however if you are running the 32 bit W7,this link should help you out.

You could try to find the correct driver using DriverMax. Use the free version that allows up to two driver downloads per day.

Have you done all of the Microsoft Windows Updates ?

Full update usually manages to sort out sound problems immediately in most cases ?

(Windows 7 must of course be genuine and preferably activated to take full advantage of Windows updates)

When installing older Apps.(Software/Programs) in Windows 7, it is well worth to: - Right Click on App. to be installed / Properties / Compatibility mode / and choosing from the drop down list the compatibility mode you would wish to use.

Many older Programs (Apps.) will work perfectly well in Windows 7 using this method. - Without using this method Windows 7 may well reject them.

A lot more fluid and acceptable than was "Vista" is - "Windows 7."

Or you could look on your sound card manufacturer's website to see if you can find the Windows 7 32/64 bit version of the driver.

If you already have this, right-click on the setup.exe file and try enabling the compatibility mode to Windows Vista RTM then reinstall the driver. That should work.

Or another one which I've just thought of is to go to the device manager and do it all manually:

When you download a driver, you usually have an .RAR archive full of files so extract them somewhere, go to device manager, right click on the audio device you're installing the driver for and click on "update driver software", follow the steps of the wizard and make sure you point the wizard to the folder of files you extracted from that archive then eventually, you will probably have to click "OK" or something which should be the last step.
