KidTDragon
I just purchased a WNR3500 wireless router, and I'm having a hard time getting my chick's laptop to connect to it. It shows up on her wireless connection list, and we can get as far as the "Configuration in Progress" screen, but the "starting the registration process" bar will fill up twice and then say that it failed. Her laptop has an Intel PRO Wireless 3945ABG Wireless connector. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hb_Kai
Is it detecting the encryption properly? And what operating system are we talking about here? All drivers installed properly?
KidTDragon
Is it detecting the encryption properly?I think it is. I'm selecting WPA2-PSK [AES-CCMP] on the laptop and the router is set to use WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES].And what operating system are we talking about here? The laptop's running Windows XP.All drivers installed properly? As far as I can tell. It has no problem connecting to the unsecured wireless networks that it detects.
rong
Is the router set to allow wireless connections?
KidTDragon
Is the router set to allow wireless connections? It looks like it. I can't find any explicit on/off buttons, but as far as I can tell wireless is enabled.
Hb_Kai
A wireless can be enabled with its green light or so but to actually enable it, you would need to go into the router's settings to take a look.If you don't know how to do this, do the following steps.Start > Run > cmd : ENTERipconfig /aCopy default gateway address into web browser's address bar as http://11.222.33.44Type in your password and stuff and find the wireless controls.See if that's the problem and let us know how you get on with that. Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see anything helpful in it. It seems to focus mainly on the wired side of things, which work fine.I've also tried connecting wirelessly with my Wii & PS3, and neither of those are able to connect either. I called Netgear's tech support, and they were only able to help me to a point, because my girl's laptop uses an Intel wireless card/interface and they only support Windows' wireless interface, which seems to be disabled and I couldn't figure out how to re-enable it.I'm starting to wonder if I have a defective router. Maybe I should just buy another one and see if it works out of the box.
Hb_Kai
Do you mean where you go on the "View wireless signals in your area" window that Windows gives you but in turn, you're using another? If that is, you have to go to the Windows one and somewhere to the left or in the options is to re-enable the Windows software to manage your wireless connections. I can't say where exactly as I don't use Windows. But in all honesty, having a defective router could be a possibility. Could be a compatibility problem - I don't see why the tech support won't help you though - just means they're a bunch of idiots sitting around with their thumbs up it.Sorry I can't help much though.//--- Here, try these steps to making Windows manage the wireless networks and then see how it goes.It could be a problem where you have to manually go into the properties for the wireless using the Windows software and make sure it's using the same encryption as the router's.If all else fails, see if your router allows you to change from using WPA to WEP and then change it temporarily to see if you can connect using WEP. That may then tell you it's a WAP problem - if not, it's either the client-side or the router whining on that it's incompatible for some reason. fmw
I think it is. I'm selecting WPA2-PSK [AES-CCMP] on the laptop and the router is set to use WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES].Is the router using the same security scheme? Why not reconfigure the router to unsecured to verify that the computer will connect? If it does then you can fool around with security until things match. Another trick is to delete the connection in the computer, reboot, and start a new connection from scratch.
