lillskm513 Posted January 3, 2010 Report Share Posted January 3, 2010 i'm using ubuntu 9.10 karmic koala on an eee 1000HE netbook at the moment. i just purchased windows 7, and i'm trying to install it. i formatted my external HD to NTFS, extracted the win7 iso to it, and plugged it into my computer but it wouldn't boot. it just kept going straight to ubuntu. so i updated BIOS from the ASUS website, the update that is supposed to make BIOS support windows 7 OS. but it still won't boot, it just keeps going straight into ubuntu. can anyone tell me why this is and how i can fix it? rong Posted January 3, 2010 Report Share Posted January 3, 2010 I think you need to have your external hard-drive plugged in at start up, go into the bios and change the boot secure to boot from the external drive if your motherboard supports booting from usb, or use a boot manager, I think it's called Grub or something like, someone else can tell you how if you go this way as it would be the easiest. You've just paid for it, dont pussy foot around wasting your money. Ubuntu is free. Get your priorities in order.If you must,install Ubuntu to seperate active primary partition. (Windows 7) I can imagine it struggling a bit with just 1GB of memory. It originally shipped retail with XP Home to keep system resources low.Make doubly sure that you have all of the Motherboard drivers before you Format the Hard Disk.Once formatted, - They have gone for good, unless you have been supplied with CD/DVD disks when you purchased.Remember that most (all) of the installation and setup is going to be via a USB port.Have you got everything in place to be able to do this ?A phone call to the manufacturer could well be in order here before you go any further with your plans. Check with them first to see if it will handle Windows 7 and the higher resources needed, also that drivers are available for what you wish to do.
