wilfj Posted March 15, 2010 Report Share Posted March 15, 2010 i just installed windows 7 on my new computer and activiated. I now found out I used the 32 bit disk rather then the 64. The computer is 64. it works fine. Question ?? Can i go back and reinstall with the 64 bit disk and would I have to re activate the program with MS.? They are always very helpful when you contact them.From what I seen of W7 32 vs W7 64, the difference in performance for the general user is minimal. AlanHo Posted March 15, 2010 Report Share Posted March 15, 2010 I started out with Win7 32 bit but decided to change to 64 bit in order to install more memory.I did a clean install using the 64 bit home premium retail disc and it activated OK.I can echo pops words though - even though I now have 8 GB of memory - I have noticed hardly any improvement in performance compared with the original 32 bit installation. My computer is mainly used for Internet, Office, photo editing and some video editing - I do not play games. The only big change was to find that my old and trusty Agfa scanner would not work on 64 bit and no drivers are avaiable. It was about time it was consigned to the museum so I replaced it. Thanks for your reply.... my son said just about the same... also as my software is older 32 bit i maybe just as well to leave it for now. I may just for info, contact MS to see what they would say. It was about time it was consigned to the museum so I replaced it.atleast your windows detects all 8GB my I7 running windows ultimate 64 bit all activated and updated recognises 6GB or 2GHz ram but says only 4GB is usable (note i have 2X1gb GPU's) but that shouldnt affect it.
