Help with updating mothercard or the processor

Recommended Posts

I thauti hade been spared from Intels confusing download website by purchased a new motherwboard...and processor (you did it only for their crappy website?...ok)

AMD Phenom 2 X4 945

Motherboard

Gibabyte GA-MA770-UD3

1.

Through AMD downloadcenter i seached for a chipset update driver..but i confused that for going in under a "processor" update?

i started here and did go "download processor drivers"

in the searchroll-list i highlighted "processor" and choosed

"AMD Phenom Family" i didnt get any result on the keywordsearch under it thou :) but i thaut that it didnt matter, cause i hade another download result allready generated on "Phenom Family"...it sounded like the general driver update for the whole Phenom family!!!! follow this link to get to that monster
/>http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/dynamicDetails.aspx?ListID=c5cd2c08-1432-4756-aafa-4d9dc646342f&ItemID=173&lang=us

and i installed it, if you now say that "yes this is absolutley nothing for your computer" then i can confirm to myself the explanation why my system now hkeep having some "smaller" issues including the odd creation of abootstart-status for C:/ that allso gave away :C and "system" to my E:/ only

...or! this is a false trail and that was infact caused by some other deeds of me :censored:

Anyhow you can offcorse allso highlight in the download list to get results for chipsets-motherboard and go for that instead

but there i get a problem even now
/>http://support.amd.com/us/psearch/Pages/psearch.aspx?type=2.1&product=2.1.15&contentType=Tech+Download+Processor&ostype=&keywords=&items=20

It demands that i shall choose a "product" and i dont find any matches lol, can you see what i have based on the CPUZ results above that im supposed to choose there?

2.

I finally got the heureka moment to instead look if it isnt infact through" Gigabyte" im expected to search for this kinds of updates

im getting good results for "Gibabyte GA-MA770-UD3" there

Not a bad guess that "AMD Chipset Driver (include chipset\sata raid driver)" is what i atleast search for right...and direct go for v.641 (for XP!!!yes)

down the list there is another listing "SATA RAID"

(I dont know, but perhaps 1 of thoose here could help me (with the help of my friend so dont worry) to force forward a restore where "E:windows" return to C:windows

since DiskPart have failed with this so far) or we ignore this and can consider me done with updating

cause i have decided to fart in performing a BIO update.

The link im planing to use http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/Driver_Model.aspx?ProductID=3243&ost=others#anchor_os

says that this is my motherboard but it adds this (rev. 1.0) when i use CPU-Z to identify exact what i have it says i have version (rev. 0.0)

but it doenst exist any such bersion on their website, so i take for granted that 1.0 is what im gonna recieve if install from this link

Your information is contradictory.

The Gigabyte link you have posted
/>http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/Driver_Model.aspx?ProductID=3243&ost=others#anchor_os

is not for your stated motherboard (GA-MA770-UD3). It is for the GA-MA770T-UD3

The correct link for the GA-MA770-UD3 is this :-
/>http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx?ProductID=2982

These 2 boards have different chipsets and the RAM and processor sockets are completely different colours :)

Oops, yeah i see the silly difference now! wouldnt have noticed if i hade not posted here

(I see thou it still claims its for rev.1.0, while "cpuz" tool claim i have 0.0 but)

1. So can someone conclude what this is i installed? can't be the counterpart to the chipset in Gigabyte, the file size and version name..

Does the download center on AMD website correspond the downloads i now have found on Gigabyte? do i need both?

2. Shall i ignore SATA RAID, what does it do?

Your motherboard should have come with the appropriate Drivers CD, that and the O/S installation CD/DVD are all you should need to enable you to do an installation.

The version of your board (Rev 1.0 or 2.0 or whatever) should be printed on it at the bottom left edge (near the 2 PCI slots)

I have the motherboard CD installed yes

I just want to update the chipset on that, but it makes no sense to me what accually is the chipset on the motherboard CD

"ATI south bridge"???

i downloaded "Chipset / SATA RAID" 8.641 (79.15 MB)

from your link and it only contains an installation

what looks like a simple ATI cataltyst package

that would then indicate that a graphic card is a south bridge?? that represent a INF update

the thing is that i dont use the integrated grahpic-card if this is just that?

i have an inserted ATI Radeon EAH4850 TOP card that have its own ATI control panel allready

I dont understand this at all, what i want to have is just the counterpart to my new computer

that represents "INF Update utility" that was on my motherboard CD when i hade an Intel computer, that updated everything on the computer basicly, what is the counterpart on a AMD/Gigabyte? it cant only be a fucking intergrated Graphip card and a "energy saver" unit

And on the motherboard CD i have now found the "download center" that will search for updates by scanning the computer

but this service claims that it dont find any updates for this computer, still i purchased it 5 month ago "without touching it till now)

so i strongley suggest that i dont have the recent chipset updates whatever that is nowdays, so the updater are lying i think

I think you are getting deeply involved in something that should not be a concern.

A motherboard should be equipped with a BIOS chip programmed to enable it to operate correctly. There should be no need to update on a new build such as you say you have. I have built hundreds of computers and never found the need to update/alter/tinker-with the BIOS in any of them. Altering the BIOS is a risky operation anyway and it is too easy to end up with a very expensive lot of completely useless junk if things go wrong.

It may be too late now but, why not assemble the machine as it should be and forget about fancy updates and add-ons until it is running adequately, or not at all.

I think you have missunderstand me

im not trying to update BIOS per see, when i think of update bios i talk about flashing BIOS, and there i agree with you its not nessesary

im trying to update my Processor or if that is classieifed as a motherboard update on gigabyte?? with the latest AMD counterpart to

a INF update on a Intel Computer
/>http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18494&ProdId=816&lang=eng

i take for granted i have installed thos throu my motherboard CD, but i cant pinpoint what that is on the CD, cause it makes no sence, that is what im trying to ask you here

I think that INF updates updates the processor only? and i have tried to find a counterpart on AMD website for a updated version of

AMD Phenom 2 X4 945

does is exist one such update on the net for my current computer or not? :)

As I intimated previously, with a new system it should not be necessary to update any part of it before setting up and running.

Also, as I said previously, I have built hundreds of computers and never needed to update any part of them before switch-on and seen them come to life. Occasionally they haven't come to life but that hasn't been anything to do with updates being needed.

INF is an information or a set up file.

I have used AMD processors for years and have never had to update a processor, I have had to flash the BIOS occasionally to accept a newer chip, but never to update the processor.

The Southbridge on most modern boards is used for, Ethernet, RAID, USB, audio codec, and FireWire.

Looking at you board the only reason for updating the BIOS was if you have an earlier version which might not accept all AM3 chips, but as yours is an AM2+ chip that does not apply.

Okay, i have used Inte computers for years myself so i guess i will take in this info

But im thinking on a possible longshoot reason to update bios now, i? have succeded to swap the MBR on C:/ to E:/ accidentally,

or it was infact a consequence of my mootherboard bios deafult version all from the start!....anyhow BIOS will allways become resetted if flashed, who knows what unwaited

positive effect that could have on the MBR or possibly incorrect settings that friends who claim thei are sure have perormed for me :)
