Years ago when building computers you not only had to put it together you also had to configure jumpers for your hard ware.

Today apart from knowing what is inside your computer, what is the fun in building them yourself.

Even the cheapest of computers is far more powerful and reliable than computers of yesteryear, and with the new version of Windows proving reliable, I will probably buy my next computer , but that will not be for a few years.

Does anyone else feel the same, or is it just me doing a Victor Meldrew.

I can see some logic in your opinion - but surely you are foregoing the fun and sense of achievement of a self build - by just buying a computer ready made.

I get pleasure from building them - not just for myself - but for friends and family.

It used to be the case that a self build was considerably less expensive - but this is no longer always the case.

I doubt that I will ever again buy ready made....unless it was a laptop.............but you never know!!!

Then you need a new challenge. I bought a garden swinging hammock/seat thingy over the internet which arrived today. It came in a large cardboard box that had clearly suffered in transit and was well battered with a hole in one end. I signed for it as uninspected with damaged packing.

Sure enough - the pack of nuts, bolts, screws and washers had split and some were lying loose in the box. There was only 1 page of instructions - the other 4 pages were missing. Also, there was no packing list so I had no idea what else was missing.

What I should have done was complain to the supplier - but the macho man in me decided to that I should have a go at building it instead. It comprised 22 tubular components of various shapes with miscellaneous drillings and a few brackets.

It took me quite a while to sort it out - and I had to make 5 missing bolts from some 10 mm all-thread I happened to have in the garage jumble.

It is now erected and fit for purpose - and proved to be much more fun than building to a set of instructions.

I recommend that you send for one...................... :lol:
