lindsey
In XP:I have gone to volume control and the volume bar for mic is greyed out. See image.I stress the issue is NOT that mic volume control does not appear (another common problem), but that it appears as a disabled feature.I have tried everything in Adjust Audio properties, no luck.Note mic works in Linux OpenSUSE11.2 on same computer with no problem, so I know the mic works. (I dual boot with Linux).
Alan2273
Is this onboard sound or a sound card, if so which type?.

catgate
Is this onboard sound or a sound card, if so which type?.I don't know...what does it matter? It is all matter of what is driving the microphone, or rather what should be driving it, and, more to the point, have you got a driver in XP that will. I never do and sound is fine. I'm not aware of any drivers specifically driving the mic...

MANEMAN
Lindsey: Just answer Alan 2273's Question to satisfy us all please. :)If onboard sound, another person on the forum here may have the same Motherboard and be able to answer straight away.If a sound card is fitted another person on the forum may have the same card and be able to answer. Someone else on the forum may have a similar problem in the future, therefore any and all info is gratefully received. It's never really a good idea to answer a question with another question. Things come to a grinding halt. :( Is this onboard sound or a sound card, if so which type?.Have you checked in "Device Manager" to see if any problems are showing up in there ?Have you checked to make sure that no other software is accessing the record process ?John.
