khara Posted July 28, 2010 Report Share Posted July 28, 2010 I just bought a new printer today and started the process of installing the drivers for it. When you use the cd to install the driver, you have to keep the usb disconnected from the pc until the installation asks you to hook it up. When you do that, a new window pops up with a list of 4 things that were either being downloaded or installed. All but one of the items (the actual driver) got installed. I just want to install the drivers that are on the CD and not from the automatic updates. I tried turning it off but it still did the same thing. Is there any way of resolving this? I've sent an email to the manufacture so I'm still waiting on that. I had a screen shot of what I described above but I'm on a different computer at the moment. The Brother DCP 7040 is not listed on the Brother UK site - but it is listed on the USA site so I suspect you live elsewhere.It may be that the disc which came with your printer is not suitable for your operating system (especially if you are using Windows 7 or a 64 bit OS). I guess I probably should of stated this but, I also used the driver from their website. It does the same exact thing as the cd. It starts up the process of installing all these files, then that window in the picture shows up, telling me to hook the printer up and turn it on. Once I do that, that window with the list pops up and then automatic update takes over and I get the same results. I'm still waiting to hear back from them. AlanHo Posted July 29, 2010 Report Share Posted July 29, 2010 Why don't you let Windows 7 install its own drivers. One of my friends has a Brother DCP-7045 on his Windows 7 64 bit system. I asked him whether he had problems installing it and he told me that he took it out of the box, inserted the toner etc, plugged it in to the USB port and Windows installed the driver automatically. His installation disc remains unused.I appreciate that the model numbers are slightly different - but they look to be very similar - if not identical - machines. andsome Posted July 29, 2010 Report Share Posted July 29, 2010 When I installed Windows 7, as stated above my printer drivers were automatically installed by Windows.
