Guest LB
the difference is that the us and uk are trying to rid the country of an evil dictatorship and the remnants of that dictatorship are making their jobs harder by mounting terrorist attacks.Yes civillians are getting killed, but if 9/11 hadn't occured the whod country would still be under the oppresive regime that they were for 30 odd years.to quote, the lives of the many far outweigh the lives of the few..... Guest LB
oh well thats alright then .......Its just tough tities if your family has been wiped out , as the west have just cause to kill them .....i think that there is a slight misinterpretation there......no one's family should be wiped out however, it is happening and if the evils of the world are not dealt with by those capable they are going to carry on and on and on and will get worse. When they have got as bad as they can get, who is going to stop it? Tankus
by creating more victims ?
Guest LB
there are going to be casualties along the way, its inevitable but isn't it better to stop the evil before it gets too bad.I dont agree that iraq was the biggest threat or even a major threat at all however our troops are there and they have a job to do.instead of putting their work down every time a civilian dies, lets praise the job they are doing and let them get on with it...... Tankus
Ah .............. support them or you are unpatriotic ....otherwise you are putting down british troops who are laying their life on the line for you ......... ! Now that they are there , they must be supported ....Its not the actits the decision in the first place ...........the difference is that the us and uk are trying to rid the country of an evil dictatorship and the remnants of that dictatorship are making their jobs harder by mounting terrorist attacks.Replace one evil dictatorship with what ....?There are more terrorists in Iraq now that there ever was under Saddam ..!Who now have access to more heavy weapons than they ever did under Saddam too .......... Guest LB
remember, the british people voted in the people who made the decision.....did you vote tankus.....did you register your disapproval at the decision?no question of unpatriotic, everyone has an opinion but why slag off the poor chaps who are doing their jobs? Tankus
Its not the actits the decision in the first place ...........Voted for the Libs last time , probably will next time by default again ....marginally best from a pretty poor bunch , I must have spent at least 45 min thinking about it .... Guest LB
when law and order is finally restored to iraq and a proper iraqi government is in place, will terrorism still be accepted there? I think not....All diplomatic avenues had been explored, the justification was wrong i admit but it was still the right thing to do.......... Tankus
Working hard just trying to think of one working democracy in an overtly Islamic population ..........Christians forcing their ideals ....might is right ....then you can trade and deal with us ....? If you conform to our ideals ....
Guest LB
the idea is to give iraqi people back their freedom.....freedom to choose what kind of leadership they want, wether it be an islamic regime or a democratically elected government....but remember iraq is a complex blend of religions, not just muslim..... Tankus
The only way that the Bathists stayed in power under Saddam was to be brutal as possible , as they were in the minority ...........Iraq is a powder keg with plenty of secular Saddam wannabes with their eye on the big prize .....Do you think the peoples choice is going to win , or the US's choice ?More sequels that James Bond ...methinks ..... Guest LB
i have no idea who will win, however i would like to think that the UN will ensure that the right thing happens.have we reached some sort of agreement here?
Tankus
Its not the question if we have no idea how this will pan out ..........What do me and you know LB .....?Its all about trust on the decisions by B'liar being made in our name ...!B'liar and Bush had no workable plan after they reached Baghdad , and frankly little interest ..........But the Pandora's box is now open and Bush has gone back to the UN ,cap in hand to help sort out the mess ......... His contempt of the UN processes before he went in , should make him reflect on the way he is seen now....!If the UN had been on board form the start ....what then...?We now "Live in interesting times ".........British, US troops and Iraqi's are dying because of it .. Sir T Fireball
The brawn of America needs the brains of the UN. We can't have them running around the Middle East like a bull in a china shop.
moon
Remember that the US has asked for UN participation under US control. Should the UN accept then the US gains credibility for its actions in the first place, saves some of its own soldiers lives and makes financial savings. Should the UN refuse then the US has somebody else to blame for any future events in Iraq, more ammunition for its condemnation of UN inactivity, a further reason to withold contributions from the UN and an excuse for pouring in many more troops, not just theirs, but also from the other countries which are supporting them. They will also get carte blanche to do as they like if the UN refuses to get involved.
Sir T Fireball
The UN will agree. Eventually. I'll even wager that they retain the right to command their own people too. As much as I love all things American and can only wish I was born stateside, the USA will only lose more kudos in the eyes of the international community over their obvious lack of strategic know-how. As for carte blanche. Isn't that French for blank chq? i thought that was Americas greatest problem at the moment, the lack of funds :D God Bless America
Guest LB
its amazing that here we are, iraq is in chaos, there are arguments between the US & the UN and all that is being worried about is money.Human life and quality of life, freedom....these are the things that should be provided and protected, wether it be by the US, the UN, britain, france or outer mongolia......why cant these people just open thier eyes? Guest LB
A £20m fund for urgent projects in southern Iraq is expected to improve delivery of power, water and fuel to more than 5m people. The money will be used for equipment and spare parts, including mobile generators, repairs and refurbishment of pipelines.International Development Minister Hilary Benn said: "The Iraqi infrastructure has faced years of neglect and underinvestment, and more recently has been subject to sabotage and looting. "As a result progress on the restoration of essential services has been slow. This assistance will give a boost to efforts to get these important services up and running consistently for Iraqis living and working in southern Iraq." This £20m is the latest allocation from the £210m committed to Iraq by the Department for International Development. The project will be implemented by the Coalition Provisional Authoribut hey...the coalition is just running around killing innocent civillians isn''t it!! Tankus
It cost over £500m to repair the damage caused by a half ton IRA bomb at the Baltic exchange ........How many tons of bombs were dropped on the Iraqi infrastructure ? on a country the size of France .......Hmmm....... its going to go far.....!
