WM Player auto drag and snap 1/2 screen problem

Hi i have Win 7, when i drag the windows media player to either the left or right had side of the screen it will no longer automatically resize the window to half the screen size, it works on other programs/windows etc. Tt resizes it to a 3/4 size rectangular window.

Any ideas ? I have attached 2 pics of what they resize to when i drag to left and right hand side.

First thing I would ask is if you have any restore points that you can revert back to before this issue occurred?

I tried restoring but i only had 2 days and i went to the earliest one and it still had the sam eproblem :(

Could this be an error caused by a registry cleaner/optimizer?If so,did you make a back-up of registry before cleaning/optimizing?

Do you have any disk-image back-ups?

If you don't have any back-ups at all,there are a few things you could try...

1)Right click taskbar>select "Show windows side by side".

2)Remove WMP and reinstall it.

3)Run sfc/scannow to try to repair corrupted files.

If this "snap" feature is really that important to you...

4)Repair install.

5)Re-install OS.

Not a whole lot more I can recommend.

My WM Player will sometimes not snap to the side of the screen. I find that if I maximise the window (Using the max/min icon at the top right) it then works OK.

Are you snapping your windows by holding down the Windows start key on your keyboard whilst hitting the left or right keys?

what is SFC ? and how do i reinstall wmp ? where do i get the sintall file from ?

I have tried maximising like AlanHo said and it still wont snap properly if i drag it , but works if i use the windows key + left or right.

When you drag it - are you sure that you are moving the cursor arrow right to the edge of the screen.

yes because i can do it for other programs and windows, only wmp doesnt work for some strange reason now.

To run sfc/scannow:Start orb>All Programs>Accessories>right-click Command Prompt>Run as administrator>type "sfc/scannow" without quotations>Enter

(Make sure you choose the version you desire-WMP 12 is installed with W 7).

Remember to create a restore point before running this application. ;)

I direct you to this utility because if you decide that you want or need to remove WMP and reinstall it,there are numerous steps to removing the program.

I tried that utility but it still had teh same problem.

I tried to uninstall wmp but its not in the programs uninstall list. I downloaded 2 install files x64 and x86 as im not sure which is 32 bit as i have win7 32bit. i tried running both and they say update is not applicable for this computer.

Could you please specify exactly what operating system you have and what country you reside in?

x64=64-bit,x86=32-bit.

Is it Windows 7 or Vista HP?

Is this an upgraded OS?

Can you do me a favor?Could you open WMP and click on the "Help" tab as shown in the screen-shot below?

In the dropdown choose "About Windows Media Player"

Post a screen-shot of what you find.

(If this "help" tab is not visible:click---> Organize>Layout>Show menu bar.)

You said that this is a 32-bit system for sure?

There is no uninstalling WMP.You have to remove it and its components manually.Once we straighten out what it is we are working with,I'll help you with that...if you haven't given up by that time. :lol:

sorry its Win 7 home premium, i selected teh wrong one in the profile, doh!! and it was upgraded from Vista.

Pardon my saying this,but if you really want all the features back on your operating system working dependably,you may want to think about a clean-installation of Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit (If this is an upgrade from Vista to W 7 HP and you have the upgrade disk and Product-Key.}

An upgraded OS is going to have bugs inherently. :unknown: That is just my opinion.

The more we try this and try that,the greater the chances to cause more bugs.

I guess what I am trying to say is that if you want the snap to function correctly with WMP,your best bet would be to "clean-install" the OS.You would have a much leaner machine for sure.I did this with my OS on an OEM lappy and it runs great.

I really don't want to go about causing more problems than is necessary.I really do hope you understand. :)

There is one thing you could try that is safe:Start orb>Control Panel>Programs>Programs and Features>Turn Widows features on or off>Media Features>unckeck all that is higlighted in screen-shot below.

Restart your computer.

Go back in and re-check what was un-checked earlier.

Restart your computer.
