How Do I Delete Accessories Folder from Desktop?

For some unknown reason, I got the Accessories folder on my desktop. When I try to delete it, I get an error stating:

'Accessories is a windows folder and is required for Windows to run properly. it cannot be deleted.'

I never put this folder on my desktop. I dont know how it ended up there. So, how do I remove this folder?

This won't be causing you any real problems, I'm sure so it would be best left alone.

All sorts of things may have caused this to happen and it can be a real problem trying to change it back to how it was. There is a very big danger, however, that if you do try an change it back you may cause untold other problems.

You could try a System Restore to a time before this happened or a restore from your system backup but other than that, I would leave it. You never know, you might find it useful on the desktop.

pops, its anoying as hell. I dont want it on my desktop. If it popped up on my desktop somehow, then I know theres a way to remove it just as easily. Any suggestions?

Have you tried to uninstall Accessories (from Add/Remove Windows Components)?

Try uninstalling in "Safe mode"

Or use - **Unlocker**

If it popped up on my desktop somehow, then I know theres a way to remove it just as easily.

You seem very certain, and very self confident. - so nobody here is gonna break into an argument with you on this one. :)

Things never just pop onto the desktop without some sort of user intervention. (Owner, friend, family member etc; etc.)

The same sort of user intervention to get rid of them can end up in an almighty cock-up requiring a complete re-install if not very careful. (Which is what pops tried to tell you)

We have no way of knowing your computer capabilities, so can only advise you on a very basic level at the moment to save you from going from bad to worse.

You might get lucky and reverse what you have done. On the other hand you may not.

Just try to remember how you, or someone you let use the computer got the folder there in the first place, reverse that procedure and you have won !

One more question: is the original Accessories folder still under Program Files, or has it simply been moved to the Desktop?

accessories is a systems folder. i looked into that. but i cant do that since i got needed components in that folder. nice try, though.

First of all. im the ONLY one who uses my computer, so one else who couldve intervened and changed stuff around on it. second of all, theres nothing i know i did that couldve put that folder on the desktop. lastly, i'll try your suggestion of trying to remove the folder in safe mode. but i hugely doubt it will work.

Yes! the original Accessories folder is in the 'All Programs' start menu.

I'd like to point out that Desktop is not actually a memory location on the computer, but is simply a message or link board linking potentially to anywhere on the computer. If I've understood your problem correctly the problem is that you've got a short-cut to Acessories on your desk-top & want to remove the short-cut & not the content (which as others have pointed out are part of the Windows system & can't be removed). Or have I misunderstood?

Normally a short-cut is removed by right-clicking on it & selecting delete. This doesn't delete the actually folder the short-cut points to. Have you tried this, and what was the result?

If you've tried this & still can't remove the short-cut, right click on it again and select Properties. What options do you get?

A screen-shot of your Desktop showing the offending item would also be helpful.
