turn off explorer automatic horizontal scroll

I am unaware of any such feature that you mention ever being in Windows 7. - What is this feature called ?

Can you upload a screencast to show us exactly what you mean ? (Perhaps by using the inbuilt **Windows 7 Problem Steps Recorder**)

Yeah it does that. It is most annoying. Grrhh.

Whether the behaviour is exactly the same as yours I am not sure.

It happens when in explorer with the Tree in a pane showing on the left.

For example suppose you have a folder name that is longer than the width of the Tree pane, then it does this annoying automatic sideways scrolling the OP refers to, I think.

This is a before and after clicking of pdf995.ini file.

After clicking it once, it will shift it over to the left.

On some folders it will shift it all the way to the left hand side of the window.

Alright I can see your issue if different to mine above.

I understand what you are saying and to workaround your problem I suggest to change the Explorer View.

For example, Right click in a white space>View.

Select Details [i think yours is set to List]

See how that behaves.

Would a change to "details" view suit your requirements?

I don't get the shifting that you describe when I single-click on a file or folder.The only time I get a shift is when I double-click.And then it isolates the file/folder to the left for further prompting.

What would you prefer the file/folder do when you click on it?

i would prefer it not to shift, as when i try to double click a file on the right hand side it ends up shifting after the first click then i have to double click again.

I am wondering whether factors such as screen size, screen resolution, pane size, font size, and so on, are coming into play here.

hamster, I fully understand your annoyance coz I have experience it on occasions myself.

For example when Browsing for a file or folder from within an app. The app window size is small, a fixed size, so the selected files "shift" to the centre of the small window. Yeah it happens B)

If i have it on list view and on full screen it will still happen if the window is full of files. Must be a list view thing.
