Copy Files From VHD

I basically want to know if I can copy files from a VHD file from a system image without running a virtual machine?

I've tried mounting this D: VHD (8Gb) file to my C: in disk management and get an error saying that there was a size allocution issue.I even tried mounting a smaller sized (10Mb) VHD and got the same error.

I believe W7 HP doesn't get virtual machine.Nor does Starter.Would this be the cause of the error perhaps?I've pondered increasing virtual memory but that is for pagefiling if I'm not mistaken....

I'd apreciate any suggestions of a way to transfer my media to a better install from an image?

Thanks

You are correct, HP does not support virtual machines, only Pro & Ultimate versions.

So unless you install something like VLC, you are shafted.

Thanks.

I tried VLC.It's an older version not updated and to be perfectly honest,I'm probably not doing something right.I can't view the files.

I also tried Virtualbox. Can't figure that out either.I just want to push a button and get results.

I think I'm going to reimage, copy, reimage, paste.Unless of course I can figure out this VHD buisness before I finish playin'.

I got tons of images.I just hope all this imaging doesn't put undue stress on my HDD.?Any thoughts on that?

What if I dual boot? With something like Ubuntu.Would I have the option for a virtual machine?

I'm ramblin'...:uhm:

Thanks again.

Cheerio...

I don't really know anyting about this subject but........

Does this help?

I apreciate the response,AlanHo.

My version of Windows (HP) does not support VM natively,so I am either stuck with using third party software, upgrading Windows,or just forgetting the whole thing-which will more likely happen.

On a serious note,I will continue messing about until I find a suitable alternative.I have given up on the "just-add-water" expectation.I should have known better.

I will update if I get it sorted.

Thanks again.
