Dell Dimension 8400 has connection but no internet

my dell dimension 8400 has a recognized connection. both lights are on when viewing the ethernet port on the back of the tower. however, when i pull up a browser to surf the web, it doesnt work indicating no connection.

this problem happened when i downloaded the new safari. then POOF!! internet never worked since.

help!!

Restore your system to a time before you installed Safari and then forget about it.

Use System Restore of a restore from you backup/image.

Of all the browsers I've tested over the years Safari for windows is the only one I've completely failed with. I've tested it on three machines and never got it to work, though fortunately it's never corrupted any other browser and they still work OK.
