Crandle Posted January 13, 2011 Report Share Posted January 13, 2011 I read an interesting post on Slashgear today about how Android 2.4 Icecream will be the next significant update for Android smart phones, while Android 3.0 Honeycomb will probably come out for the tablet versions. The article also mentioned the significant modified UI of Honeycomb, which would make sense for Android to keep the two platforms separate, but my question is in how far this would have implications for app developers. MANEMAN Posted January 13, 2011 Report Share Posted January 13, 2011 Implications for app developers would be extra work, and a small amount of monetary gain.Always in the world of operating systems is this self perpetuating ability for some sort of financial gain however small.Cynical as it may seem, there is always a great deal of foresight for monetary gain when "different" but basically the same operating systems are set against each other like this. Microsoft have been, and are still always doing it. Google no different.Once Android starts to catch up with the market lead of iPad, expect many apps not to be freely given anymore.As we are gradually drawn away from Microsoft operating systems towards Apple and Android, once a good market share has been established applications will become pricier. Microsoft is lagging a bit at the moment, but there is talk of a touch pad operating system in 3 years. ( Three freakin' years ! ???)App writers are always at the bottom of the heap, just like domestic service engineers. The implications are also, that with the extra work and experience, each app writer is hoping to become the next Bill Gates. For sure there will be more, as in Apple's iTunes Store, but up till now I've always used only free apps on my iPhone.
