I already know there are startup managers to delete startup programs and maximize load time, etc.. I don't want that. I just want either a real time display of software load progress or a software that logs how long each took after the fact once everything is done loading. If I need to go into Windows and decipher a complicated log list with exe file names instead of full program names, that's a no-go. bludgard Posted January 16, 2011 Report Share Posted January 16, 2011 I would think that this type of software would (by necessity) be inaccurate.For you would have critical OS programs with a higher priority loading before the this software could launch.I surmise that if it cannot launch immediately (before any other program) at boot,it wouldn't accomplish this task satisfactorilly.This is my reasoning,which is also subject to being faulty.I am interested to know if there is indeed a reliable software that can monitor this activity.I love Windows logs.They are a giant puzzle begging to be solved. Your computer will be far more concerned with important programs to get is into a working state than to be bothered with a program like you are requesting.What I do at startup is get the machine(s) powered up and then go and make myself a hot drink. By the time the drink is ready, the computer will be likewise.If the time taken to get into a working state is inordinately long (multiple minutes), then it may be time to do some reorganizing of the machine. bludgard Posted January 16, 2011 Report Share Posted January 16, 2011 After several unsucessful attempts at installing Soluto on XP VM,I have given up.I will not try to install it on my regular OS.You first have to download the downloader.Which then downloads the installer.The installer downloads the software.All along there are several attempts to install a bunch of other crap.Final verdict:Don't bother.:) My Xp VM booted in about 25 seconds to a useable desktop with internet access.I really would like to find out what is causing this slugishness.:P Windows 7 in less than a minute.The same with Ubuntu10.10. bludgard Posted January 17, 2011 Report Share Posted January 17, 2011 Bootvis actually does work on XP.I can't say for any other Windows OS.I'll try it on Win7 when I create a VM for it.I read a lot about it and there seems to be just as many pros as cons related to it's use.I ran it twice.The first time my XP VM restarted in 18 sec.The second time I ran Bootvis,it took a couple of minutes to reach the desktop.Below is a screenshot of a couple of many areas of that are monitored.If anyone decides to implement this program,please create comprehensive backup or create a system image just in case you are one of the many that encounter problems as a result of using this.Thanks. bludgard Posted January 17, 2011 Report Share Posted January 17, 2011 I did have to restore a snapshot of my XP VM after running Bootvis to get my 20-25sec workable desktop back,so BEWARE.I guess I am counted among the many that ultimately ran into issues with this program.
