dandy52002
Hi There; I am having a new problem that I can't seem to resolve. I am using driver detective to down load new drivers for my computer and that seems to work fine. The problem come in when I try to install the new drivers the following message appears. (Your internet sequrity settings prevented one or more files from being opened).I have checked the internet browser under tools and adjusted the settings from medium to low and still the problem continues. Any ideas what could be causing the problem or what I can do to resolve it. This problem is new and I have never had any issues like this before. I am running windows 7Thanks for your help
-pops-
Are you having problems with the drivers already installed? If you are, it would be far better to go to the hardware manufacturers web site for new drivers rather than using (what I understand) is an independent source. If you are not having problems with installed drivers, forget about (probably unnecessary) updates. You would be advised also to restore the security settings on your web browser. -pops-
I have just checked the security credentials of Driver Detective on Web of Trust and it scores RED - which means it is potentially dangerous and/or untrustworthy.

dandy52002
Once again thanks for the quick response. To answer your question I have two different computers one running windows xp the other is a lap top running windows 7. I chose Driver detective to keep my lap top up to date with the drivers are you telling me this program is not safe for my computer? The issue described is not necessarily related to Driver Detective it refers to my internet security settings which will not allow all files to be opened. I'm just not sure where the problem is as I have never seen this message before. The reason I am trying to update the drivers is because according to Driver detective they are out dated. The way I found this problem was when I was trying to use my printer that's when I noticed the issue. Thanks Guys for your help
dandy52002
I found this any ideas if it will work it is related to the exact problem I am having right now the other suggestion is try a system restore. I'm not an expert with this stuff so I like to ask before attempting any thing.Problem : your internet security settings prevented one or more files from being openedsolution: 1. Create another user (admin example A)2. Switch to the newly-created user3. Run regedit (typing it in run)4. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings5. Right-click -> export to C:\ drive as .reg6. Switch back to your original account7. go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Internet Settings ( delete internet setting)8. Run the exported .reg9. Restart.
MANEMAN
Now that we know the operating system is not XP. Turn off UAC (temporarily) - Google for it if you dont know how.Turn off firewalls hardware(router)/software (application). - Google for it if you dont know how.Never use any source but Manufacturers or Vendors for drivers unless absolutely neccessary.( You can read more on the subject of drivers at this previous post: http://forums.windowsforum.org/index.php?showtopic=47312&st=0&p=319081&hl=+vendors%20+&fromsearch=1entry319081 )You can install the drivers in "Safe Mode." if you wish. (Sensibly, - do a scan with Malwarebytes if you are in there ? :))The Install/Uninstall of some things in Safe Mode may require that you start the "Windows Installer" in that mode.If that is needed, - I will not tell you how, - but let you have a bit of "Google" fun on that learning curve, or let you search the forum here for an article that is an essential read on the subject.are you telling me this program is not safe for my computer? (Driver Detective)Pops checked it out for you. - You make up your own mind. bludgard
Certainly makes me wonder what has put the registry cadywompus to start with. The only time I mess with drivers is when something isn't working and it used to.Same goes with the registry. Thanks for keeping the thread updated and providing a resolution to the problem.I may need this someday.I must be mixing with too many posh people then Dandy. ...............
