[Vista] Lost my Vista themes.

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I am brand new to this forum and hopefully my problem can be fixed with some help. I have tried searching for a sollution to no avail.

I recently turned on my computer to find that I had lost my Vista themes. It had automatically chosen to display a Windows classic theme instead. I tried going into the display options to change the appearence, but when choosing the Windows Vista Basic color scheme, the example box shows nothing but a blank black box [example screenshot]. When trying to apply it, nothing changes.

I have also tried selecting the Windows Vista theme from the theme menu, but it just shows the Windows Classic windows and bars instead of Vista/Aero [example screenshot].

It is possible that I accidentally disabled a program in the "services" menu (where you disable programs from starting up) while trying to turn off my VNC server. This is the last thing I remember doing thre night before I had this problem.

Thanks for any help that I can get. I am willing to do anything to get help with this.

one of these solutions might work - see this webpage

or possibly do a system restore

or download Microsofts fixit utility, create an account and then explore the options on the web page specific to Vista

Hope this helps :)

** Reset Vista Services To default **

**How To Use System Restore to Undo System Changes in Windows Vista**

Hope that is of some help.

Are you Male or Female ? It doesn't say in your profile. :)

EDIT: Sorry Pawz. Didn't see you posting until after I pressed "Go"

I'm having a problem with my Vista theme too. I checked the services.msc and it says that the "themes" is set to "automatic", so I have to restart the themes service and it works. Is there a way to ensure the theme loads on startup? I find it very troublesome to keep going back to services to restart it. Thanks!

Hi, Daryl.

Try disabling the service > Reboot > Set the service back to Automatic > Reboot.

Just a stab in the dark….
