We are lucky in our area where not all that many greens are council run. Having said that, in nearby Lichfield, the council have dug up a very small and not very good green and replaced it with a much larger one complete with hut and toilets. The site of the club that I bowl for was owned by a brewery, and the site has been sold to a day nursery. Planning permission has been granted for the nursery, and the green is retained. Round here, we certainly don't wear whites, just our normal day wear. The sport is very popular in Staffordshire, with a very strong county presence in youth teams. We have a first class young lad who bowls for us, and is now twelve years old. He beat a very well respected middle aged bowler in last nights league game. I am very happy that the sport is in excellent shape round here. B) B) B)

As an indication of the popularity of the sport in this area alone.

Lichfield and District bowls league has six divisions of 10 teams per division.

Cannock Bowls league has six divisions of 10 teams per division.

50+ league has 4 divisions of 12 teams.

Many clubs of course are in all three leagues.

These are just the leagues that I personally play in, and all clubs are withing thirty minutes drive of my home.

Further afield are the Dudley Building society bowls league, the Heath Town and district league, Heath Town and district 50+ league, Wolverhampton and district works bowls league, South Staffs licenced victuallers bowls league, Bilston bowling league. Willenhall and district bowling league, Kingswinford and Brierly Hill bowling league.

I don't think that this area has anything to worry about.B) B) B) B) B) B)
