I don't know if anyone has heard of Rapport but I've just installed it on my PC as I do online banking and also buy goods and services online too.

By the way this link wasn't sent anonymously but it's available free on the Cahoot website (whom I do online banking with)

There is a 32 bit version and 64 bit version covering a wide range of banking and other secure sites.

p.s. I've only just installed it and so I will have to see how I get on with it but it's been installed on over 22 million PC's according to their website as of today.

I've come across it on several machines where people have had it installed and subsequently experienced internet problems or running very slowly or hanging applications which they have asked me to sort out.

In practice, not all these problems were related to Rapport, but IMHO it does not seem to be very friendly towards older or lower spec machines.

If you do decide to uninstall it and you use XP, see this - http://www.trusteer.com/book/xp-users-uninstalling-rapport-using-safeuninstall-utility

- it does leave some stuff behind.

This tells you how to get rid of these leftovers using Safe Mode - http://www.trusteer.com/book/uninstalling-rapport-safe-mode

I should be okay then as I have quite a high spec PC - a 3 Ghz quad core CPU, 4GB RAM and a medium power graphics card

I only use Vista and Windows 7 now, I stopped using Windows XP over 2 years ago.

If I had problems with it I would simply restore my Norton Ghost backup 'image'.

So far I've not experienced any problems with it and I like to have an extra layer of security when going on to secure sites so it is worthwhile, at least I find it so.

I have used e-banking since the 90's, and I never needed any 3rd-party software for that.

Yes but back in the 90's when the internet hadn't taken off like it has now, online threats were practically non-existant.

What does it do that a secure https connection cannot do?

Have a read of this Pat, especially the bottom paragraph.
