roxana3948
Hi All, I guess it was too soon to report success. I was just typing an email and it happened again. The text I was typing flew to where the mouse pointer was located. I am using my corded MicroSoft mouse and made sure the MS mouse driver was installed. roxana3948
rong and Digerati, In answer to your questions, yes, I have used other corded mice and ran OS Win 2000 and Win XP. The answer suggested by Alan worked very well until this morning. I'm beginning to believe in poltergeists.Roxana
roxana3948
Hi Again,In my search for answers, someone suggested that it might be good to disable my touchpad - that maybe accidental touching contributes to moving my text around. Problem with that is there is no info on how to do that in the help or control panel.I will continue searching.Roxana
rong
Another thought, as this has happened to different computers over a long time is there any program that you have had on all of them
Boris
Your first post stated that you had a PC. Your last post now refers to a touchpad.Exactly what type/make/model of machine are we talking about here ?

To access through msconfig, click Start > type msconfig.exe in Search programs and files box > click on System Configuration. Under startup tab > look for Synaptics or whatever the device is and uncheck the box to disable it. Apply the setting and reboot. Device Manager can be accessed by right-clicking Computer and selecting Manage. Select Device Manager. Under Mouse, look for touchpad entry. Double click the device and under the General (Device usage dropdown menu) or Driver tab; select Disable. You can also control the sensitivity of the touchpad if you do not wish to disable the device. This can be done through the Mouse options in Control Panel. Digerati
Touchpad? Well, many touchpads are very (too!) sensitive and even the lightest brush will send the cursor flying. That could easily explain this problem, on this computer. But not years worth these problems with other computers and OSs.
-pops-
I remember a "joke" program from many year ago called Crazy Mouse which was intended to be surreptitiously installed on a victim's computer so that the perpetrator could have a good laugh. The consequences were fairly obvious, I'm sure. Not my idea of amusement but, could there be something similar here?Who else has access to your computer? Digerati
Then again, to happen over multiple computers over a long time - - - -It keeps coming back to that, huh? Every attempt to come up with a cause and solution is dashed because it makes no sense when applied across those multiple computers. I would love to have this computer on my bench. bludgard
Windows 7, XP, and 2000? Same thing? I highly doubt it was all on the same machine. They are different OS’s installed on (I assume) unique hardware. Sounds like a configuration setting that someone has tweaked. Possibly in Control Panel > Mouse and/or Keyboard.Change the keyboard and mouse if it is the original that caused the problem on Windows 2000-7.I am confused as well about the meaning of a cursor that does not move but moves.Original .doc to post above. Dated July 4$, 2011. Available for download here. @ -pops-, I feel ya.
