-pops-
Can you tell us why you are using a modern-seeming computer and an obsolete operating system (Windows XP)?
pawz7
I do not think you can go beyond Dx 9.0c in XP Ali and anyway, that is probably not relevant to your current problem. The instant-boot might have been useful to you had you installed it and if you are a single user - but that might mask, rather than resolve the problem. There is a quite useful utility available called Soluto, which will show you just what is loading at boot and how long it takes and enable you to pause or delay it. It is very easy to use and may help as it goes beyond the applications listed in Startup. If you do not want to bother with that, you could untick everything in the startup list (Start-Run-type msconfig - OK click on Startup tab), restart and see if that helps, then add back only what is actually needed to be loaded at boot, such as antivirus utilities, or re-tick one box at a time and restart, until you locate the rogue app causing the delay. Also look in Event Viewer to see what that might say for the current session on the Application tab. Another useful utility is Sysinternals Process Explorer which will show you all the running processes and how much processor time they are using. Very useful to help identify problem applications.it isn't clear to me why you are getting this problem. As pops has commented, XP is getting a bit long in the tooth, but even so I do not think it is likely to be responsible for the slow-down. The graphic card might be though as drivers are the achilles heel of any OS. You could try putting in the old card again just to see if that removes the problem, or you could try the latest driver for your new graphics card, which will probably be more up to date than the one on the CD that comes with the card. That is all I can think of for the moment. Would be good to know how you get on :)
bludgard
Look in System Configuration for any programs you may suspect is stalling Windows boot.Alisoldier wrote:“The day before that i upgraded my windows XP to WindowsXP pro.I noticed in my installation disc there was a application called "ASRock Instant boot" which i didnt install.” Sounds like a tweaked .ISO. @ -pops-, “Can you tell us why you are using a modern-seeming computer and an obsolete operating system (Windows XP)?” Sounds like fiddlin’. AliSoldier
Can you tell us why you are using a modern-seeming computer and an obsolete operating system (Windows XP)?Well you see, Windows7 and Vista seems way to complicated for me and for some reason i just love windowsXP :-)Yesterday i remembered that i recently bought a new Dock for my iPod which connected to the pc via the USB Port.. I tried plug it out and it seems to work fine now! Since yesterday i have been rebooting my pc about 4 times and yet the 'freeze' thingy havent happend.I thank you guys for trying to help, but nowadays all you have to do is unplug a cable lol :-)PS:Would you guys recommend me to upgrade to windows7? -pops-
I used to think the same way when Vista was launched - so much so I gave it a miss for the most part.Windows 7 is something different. A vast improvement over XP and, from what I know of it, Vista. If you're really attached to XP there is always the compatibility mode to make it behave like the older system. I've never used that, being content with the small learning curve that W7 presents over that of XP. I would definitely go for Windows 7. bludgard
I agree with –pops-.Windows 7 is certainly a superior operating system than XP.Why should there be a choice, though? Our Win 7 machine has XP as an installed virtual machine. I do not think I could live without XP since I was turned on to the OS. If you are able to upgrade to 7, go for it. I am sure you will appreciate the system.
