Screen Freezes

Looking for some help on this problem.

I am using Internet Explorer with XP, on occasions when I go into Internet Explorer the screen, on occasions, freezes.

Can't select anything other than my home page & can’t get out of the Home page.

Only constant clicking on the “red cross” gets release, then get the “ Do you want to end session now ” box.

This problem has only recently started, I use cc cleaner after every session.

Hope I have explained enough for help to be given.

Any ideas as to cause & how cure?

try disabling all the add-ons (Tools - manage add-ons). If it is IE6 you should upgrade. Try using an uncluttered home page (like Classic Google) to see if that improves the situation. If you only have 512 mb ram in there, doubling that to 1GB would also be beneficial. That is all I can think of for the moment

Thanks for the input, but I am using Internet Explorer 8, & have 1.5Gb Ram.

Do not want to tamper with the "add ons" as it may cause other problems.

Also, this problem only started a few weeks ago & I have not changed/added any "add ons" since then.

But again thanks for the input.

Any other ideas?

You could try downloading another browser, preferably Firefox as it does not use the Trident layout, and see if you get any problems with that, or rollback to IE7, see how that is, and then install IE8 again. That might fix it.

this page might help

Have you tried running IE (No add-ons)?

Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>IE (No add-ons)

At least this will give you an idea if it is an add-on issue.

Edit: Could this issue have something to do with your Home Page?

Try “Use blank” under Tools>Internet Options. Under Home page section>Use blank>Accept>OK.

You can always change it all back.

Or restore your system to a time before this issue started with either System Restore or recover with a previously created System Image.
