congaman59
I'm working on a computer that has update problems. I want to uninstall and reinstall the.net files. This computer has .net: 1.0, 1.1.4, 2.0, and 4.0.I was told to delete all with the .net clean up tool then reinstall. The problem I have run in to is that I don't see the stand alone installers for these .net frameworks for vista on the Microsoft download page. Do I have to have files specifically for vista, or are the .net framework files all generic?I've never done this in Vista before. It is not running the windows updates. I ran the cleanup tool for all the .net(s) installed and still about every 30 seconds or so when I am in process viewer I see a windows update process open itself with the users name of the admin, runs for about 3 seconds, and then it goes away. Is there a way to delete and reinstall the windows updater in vista. I thought that was in .net framework. Apparently not cause I deleted all that on this machine. It's a client's computer and I really only do virus removal. They don't want to have to do a reinstall for some reason.Do I need to put back the .net files before I do anything else?some of the .net framework reinstalled and some didn'tNow I am getting now is "Windows Modules Installer stopped working and was closed. A problem caused the application to stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a solution is available. I got that when it was trying to reinstall the .net files. Before when it was trying to install other updates I got a different error that said an unknown error occur ed.

ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Do they really need the .NET Framework? Only very few applications actually need it.
congaman59
Well I guess the point is moot since I can't even run an SFC to find out what the real problem is? I suggested the client buy a full blown copy of win 7 and let me format and install. It's either that or I can put it back to factory state with the disc that came with the computer. Boris
can't run an sfc cause the opsys was put on by dell. You should be able to run sfc /scannow - see :-/>http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833If it does ask for one, you can use any OEM Vista disc (rather than a "Recovery" type disc) AFAIK
bludgard
can't run an sfc cause the opsys was put on by dell. Some anti-virus/malware cripple recovery options at times. Sometime disabling isn't enough. Can you access any recovery options?
congaman59
I advised the customer to buy a copy of win7 and start over. I think he is going to do that. Less problems, better opsys.
