doug
Need some strong guidance here. Elderly friend has now got a laptop (she's house bound with 97 year old mother). Have persuaded her to go on a PC course but it doesn't start 'till mid Sept. I've managed to pop up a couple of times but things are getting difficult e.g. trying to tell her that e-mail addresses don't start with www. keep getting desperate phone calls about various issues. I was wondering about this remote assisstance facility. Never done it or used it and am aware that security for her is vital. But If I could take over temporary control of her PC I could correct things and show her what she's doing wrong. So before I proceed help and suggestions welcome. I'm doing some reading about it and struggling.Resolved
-pops-
Not used Remote Assistance since I first tried - and failed - to get it to work in WXP. I've not heard that it has improved or been made any easier.

Digerati
You might check out TeamViewer. It works. But of course with all remote control software, the remote computer has to be running well enough to run, and to connect to the network/Internet. doug
Will give TeamViewer a go. Got it downloaded then had a panic phone call from Ruth. All her e-mails were bouncing. What she had been sending to me were coming through OK. So tried to get her to download TV without success. So went over there and foung that she had been mixing her @'s with www.'s. So sorted most of those out and downloaded TV onto her PC. Had to shoot back to my Missus but noticed something strange. My browser is Firefox but hers is IE but it wasn't displaying as my IE. It was only showing a Google page with no address bar. So everytime she was visiting any site she was having to do a Google search. She said her niece had set that up when it arrived - I was away on holiday. So I'll start another thread for advice and use TV to see if I can correct it. Will keep you posted. Digerati
The best thing about Windows is it is highly customizable and can easily be individualized. doug
Just found out a bit more. Ruth's Neice had set up IE for her when she and her parents were up for a couple of days. I didn't want to interfere but as it turns out she lives 350 miles away. Anyway we're going to try out the TeamViewer link tomorrow. If it works I'll set her up with Fiefox, which I'm used to and should be able to answer any questions she might have. God this woman is racing ahead of herself, I'll also have to show her how to do the 3 finger salute, i.e. how to bring up Tasmanager to find out what she has running as she says she's having problems with it seeming to hang before shutting. She's starting on a course for begginers on the 15th so hopefully she'll be taken through things in a more structured way. Will let you know haw it all goes. doug
Success. Was able to log into her PC this morning, download Firefox, set yp a few bookmarks for her and sort out some mis-spellings in her address book. Very impressed with TeamViewer Digerat. Thank you. Spotted a few more issues with her PC but had to leave for now. Will raise another thread and see if I can change the title of this one to show it's resolved.Done :) - Boris
