pawz7
You may have damaged the power lead or internal connection sheath, so that even when the power lead is connected, the laptop is not receiving any juice. You could try another compatible adapter to see if that gets it going, but if the problem is internal it may need a soldering job to replace the component, though some laptops do have one that just plugs in. pawz7
in control panel you can configure what happens to the laptop when you put the lid down. If it just goes to sleep, it should wake up when you open the lid again, or maybe just one press on the power button brings it back - these things vary and I am not familiar with every nuance :)
george riley
A big thankyou anyway
bludgard
I do not know if this will help, george riley, but pull the power from the laptop, disconnect all periphrials (USB/wireless devices and memory cards), remove the battery. Push and hold the power button for a good thirty seconds. Replacce the battery and reconnect the power supply. Power on the laptop. Do you get any indication of life from LEDs on the lappy?Have you installed any new hardware and/or software prior to closing the lid? bludgard
When I said to replace the battery, I meant to return it to the receptacle, not buy another one. Did you try what I suggested?
george riley
yes i did but still no sign of life
bludgard
Can the computer boot to BIOS? Try pressing F-2 or F-8 once a second while machine tries to boot.

bludgard
Try connecting an external monitor and power on the laptop.
pawz7
it looks more and more like the damage I mentioned in first post has occurred. Common enough problem If you go on the Samsung support site, you should be able to download a user manual for that model (it might have the format NP-R159), or even better a service manual or technical specification. If you could see whether or not it has an internal plug connection for the power jack, that would clear the way forward a bit in respect of how you deal with it if it does turn out to be connection damage. Otherwise it is a solder jobbie. However, whether or not the necessary part is still available even if it is an internal plug and lead connector is another problem, but maybe eBay could help there. The only other thing I can think it might be (apart from a dead processor or board)would be to do with the screen failing - but you would still hear disk activity and probably get something on the screen. What would I do now... put a fully charged battery in to see if that worked. If so you would know it IS a power damage problem.

bludgard
oops, sorry bludgard, posted before I saw your responseNo problem. Seems as if I jumped into this thread unannounced anyway. My apologies in return.PS: I do not see where I am helping the matter anyway....:lol:Edit: I am only assuming that it may be the monitor from this from OP:"...there is some life in some of the LEDs"

rong
The time it took to start working seams to long for overheating to me
pawz7
usually, if a machine is overheating, it will work for a period of time - with the fan going flat out, and then it will just cut out - instant. Then, when you turn it on again, some time later, having been given a chance to cool down, it will start up again as usual, and then the process is repeated - temperature of the processor reaches critical and the machine shuts down for its own protection. However, what you described was a machine that was fine when you shut the lid, but which seemed totally dead the next day when you wanted to use it again. Different. You might have been saying that it was the adapter which was overheating rather than the machine - and indeed they can get hot, but if the machine has been properly charged via its battery, removing the adapter should not stop the machine from working - so that did not make sense either. However, if it is now working, hurrah!!
