bludgard
First run was buggy as hell. Setup went over without a hitch, but couldn't get the OS to connect to the internet within VirtualBox. I found it to be a very raw product. I couldn't get the Start menu to operate correctly. Everytime I selected to shut the machine down, it would go to the green screen. When attempting to shut down from the green screen, it would revert back to the blue screen. I'll try dual booting the OS and see if it gets on better "on it's own".Anyone else have any opinions or comments?
Alan2273
Same problems as you have bludgard,, after running it for a few hours all I can say is if this is where they are heading it is not for me. It is well suited to a tablet as the desktop is app driven, But if this is the future good luck to them. I am posting this from Win 8 developer, so it is not all bad, but how they can justify this as the next OS baffles me.
bludgard
... after running it for a few hours all I can say is if this is where they are heading it is not for me. Nor me, Alan2273. I gave the Preview it's own hard drive and got it to connect to the internet. It downloaded about 7 or 8 updates. Afterwards it seemed to operate a little smoother. As you say, it is touchscreen/tablet oriented and I do not forsee me using it as a dedicated OS as I do not plan to get a tablet. AndI can not stand smudges on my monitor(s). IE 10 was a little intriguing. Pretty much the same as IE9 as far as visuals, but I am sure there are other changes. Explorer has some added options. I "heard" there is the ability to mount an ISO/Image.(?) I'll give it some play when I do not have a lot going on. It is a preview, anyway.... :)
Makcalable
I have been using Windows 8 Developer preview build X64 for a few days now, I have it dual boot and one PC and I am using it through VM VirtualBox on another, Installation for both went very smooth indeed and have found it to be a little buggy when navigating through some settings. I have been explorering the Recovery Menu and thought that was very impressive too, plenty of options all in the one place and very easy to see where you want to go with the recovery from repair to system image recovery. many options Refresh your PCReset your PCSystem RestoreSystem Image RecoveryAutomatic RepairCommand PromptAnd more.... Still getting to know windows 8 but to be honest although it looks a lot nicer and feels better plus having many more new features that are to die for I still think it will be difficult for me to switch to windows 8 completely. bludgard
What's up Bugsy? Did you notice the size of System Reserved? 350MB. I haven't gotten that far with the recovery options, but I knew there had to be something different going on. I was checking on that Paragon FS. Seems to be a broken driver? Updates do help. I checked that first in Disk Management. NTFS.
