Hi , my name is Matias. For some months now I've been having some problems with my presonus firestudio 26x26 Firewire Audio interface on Windows 7 ultimate 64 bits , the pc just crashes and windows freezes. The funny thing is that this happens every time I turn on my pc , i get like 5 to 10 minutes to use it without any problems and then just suddenly it freezes so I have to manually reset the pc , sometimes i get the blue screen. After that I can work the rest of the day without any problems but these happens every day , one crash , manual reboot and then all works just fine. When i look at the windows event log , i can see that the critical error that i'm getting right before the pc crashes is the Kernell-Power event 41 (63).

I've tried disconnecting the Firestudio Audio Firewire Interface and the pc works just fine , no crashes and no problems.

If you could help me solve this annoying problem and give me more info regarding these particular error i would really appreciate it , I'm currently using my pc on music production purposes , thanx Matias.

PD: These is my current PC set up:

-Intel core I7 930 , 2.80 ghz.

-6 gb ram ddr 3.

-Asus p6t Motherboard.

-3 sata hdd with a total of 1 Tera disk space.

-Zotac gtx 460 video card.

-Topower m2 650 modular Power Source

- Presonus Firestudio 26x26 Audio Interface.

I was unable to identify that device on the PreSonus web page so:

My first thoughts are that the computer power supply unit is underpowered or is failing. The fact that the computer functions OK with the device removed suggests this.

Details of the error are given at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504

First , yes Boris , that's the power supply!

Second: I've just calculated the Psu wattage from the page you gave me , it recommends a 778 watts power supply though i have to say there were some items i didn't fill like fan speed , tce coolers ,etc. So i guess a 1000 watts power supply would be ok for my set up. Now I wanted to ask you: How accurate is the info of the site??? Don't want to make another mistake again with this. Thanx Matias.

PD: Just gonna have to sell the good old Topower....

I'm sorry , but the power wattage calculation that I mencioned before was WRONG. In the system type i forgot to read the attention advice that was in it so I've calculated it again , NOW the recommended cpu wattage shows 438 Watts , therefore I have to belive that the Topower I'm currently using its OK for the set up , so the problem has to be something else. I leave you a pic of power calculation now , thanx again Matias.

Being "new" doesn't necessarily mean an item is up to the standard it should be.

I've been building computers for many years and I've lost count of the number of times there have been faulty components supplied. Not so bad now as it used to be but still far from perfect.

If you are testing a new PSU, may I suggest that you fit a 1000W device.

I think I noticed on the illustration in the graphics card web site that it requires two Molex connections. This definitely suggests it is very power hungry.

Ok , I would need a couple of weeks to get the money to buy a new one , im thinking Thermaltake 1000 watts modular TRX-1000 PSU. Now there's one thing that I still dont understand , if my current PSU is under powered with the mencioned set up , wouldn't windows crash and freeze every time I use the audio interface, instead of just crashing once and then working just fine?? Thanx again Matias.

I'm not sure this is a PSU issue, I have read previously on a very similar issue regarding these error codes and symptoms on it being 2 Audio HD Driver with ATI sound drivers??

Now it is just a suggestion but I would check your device manager and see how many of these drivers you have installed and if any I would uninstall them completely and see how you go from there.

It seemed that the sound drivers were conflicting with one another causing friction with the machine freezing and crashing.

Driver's in question are;

ATI High Definition Audio Device

High Definition Audio Device

I also did notice that you had "Firestudio Audio Firewire Interface" and maybe with all 3 of the sound drivers installed....... not good.

Just a thought ;-)

If I missed something, apologies.
