Alexnara1994
Okay, so a few days ago I noticed my Windows 7 clipboard wasn't working right as whenever I tried to paste anything nothing would happen and said nothing was in the clipboard, I am assuming one of my registry cleaners ended harming the clipboard. I still found the clipboard in System 32. Now before I tried doing the command "sfc/scannow" but before it only got to 6%. I assume it was a virus and started the computer up in safe mode, I scanned with my anti-virus,anti-malware and anti-spyware but found nothing.I asked around and was told to turn off all my virus/spyware and malware and try using combofix. I did this and it says it found and fixed a few problems but still could only get to 6%. What I was told after was to try to use Tuneup Utilities 2012 to fix it, it ended up harming another registry item basically making me have to hit the "Use as Admin" for everything I tried to use. I tried "sfc/scannow" again and it worked. It finished and told me to restart the computer, I did so, it fixed the registry item tuneup messed up but not the clipboard. My computer is also freezing up now.So I am kinda at a loss, I have no clue what to do now, my computer ,an Asus, never came with a Windows 7 disc just with it already installed so what else can I do to fix my clipboard? If it helps my computer is an Asus g73j with Windows 7 64 bit. Does anyone know how to fix it? Thanks, in advanced.
MANEMAN
First suggestion is. - I send you the post and package cost and you send it to me. - To keep ! - For free !That is one nice machine. :) When reading your post the thing that made me shudder most was reference to: "one of my registry cleaners" The Windows registry does not need cleaning, and the reference to more than one is probably the reason for the early demise of this operating system. I am not going to suggest that some sort of rescue is out of the question, but if it were mine I would be thinking at this stage of backing up all of my personal data (Music, Documents, Pictures, etc; etc.) and resetting the operating system back to factory default. Anything less I feel could lead to a disappointing computing experience in the future. "The system can be restored to factory settings using the recovery disc which is provided along with the ASUS G73Jh laptop by the manufacturer at the time of purchase. Insert the disc into the CD-ROM and restart your system. Once the system reboots ensure that the system starts up from the CD-ROM and a menu would appear to restore to factory settings. The wizard would proceed and your ASUS G73Jh laptop would be reinstalled with the Operating System." As far as i can see some g73j models were not supplied with a recovery disc, but a recovery partition. In this case tap F9 as the computer is booting up to reach the recovery partition, and follow the on-screen instructions. The choice is now yours. Try to patch it up, or Back to factory settings, - or Give it to me. :D John.
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Try http://support.microsoft.com/fixit/ If you ever get this thing fixed, stop using "registry cleaners" - there is no single reason in the world to use such things! Lamb Chop
Having just done a full recovery on my Dell cheapie - I read this and can I ask you if Ccleaner - registry part is also on your list of never ever use it. I have just replaced it on mine as use it daily on boot to clean up browser cache etc. But have also been guilty of using it to clean up issues it finds of left over bits and bobs from uninstalls and always do a back up so can restore if necessary. MANEMAN
The registry cleaner with CCleaner is fairly gentle. People do like to feel that they have "Cleaned" something, so there is I suppose nothing wrong with this placebo effect regarding CCleaner.I would think this placebo "Good Feeling" effect is probably why Piriform bundled it in with the package in the first place.I've never heard of a case where the CCleaner registry cleaner done any harm. ( Or any good come to think of it. :) )Stories of improvement after registry cleaning is all anecdotal. There have been no absolute benchmark tests done to prove any case for them. The only thing ever neccessary to clean from the registry usually though is malware, and this is done with a malware or anti-virus scan. Constant install and uninstall of applications is usually the cause of "left behind" rubbish in the registry. Using an uninstaller such as "RevoUninstaller" in advanced mode is one of the best uninstalls that you can do because it removes redundant registry entries. Preventive maintenance such as good uninstalls and anti-virus/anti-malware sweeps will serve you best in the long-run. Registry defragmentation/optimization such as is done with ERUNT is safe, but to my mind still questionable as to any measurable performance gain. A deep scan with anti- malware, anti-virus, and anti-rootkit software would be the very first steps with a badly malfunctioning machine. The Windows registry never has, never will, and never should be subjected to "Cleaning." An experienced operative may at times use an agressive cleaner when a computer has reached "The Last Chance Saloon" and just before deciding that a fresh install is required. Registry Cleaners are "Snake Oil". Registry Cleaners most times do more harm than good because they remove chunks of the registry at random in a "One fits all" scrape that does not take into account different variations and needs of individual applications. If you were told to tidy your home, you wouldn't take all of the contents straight down to the tip without looking at it or checking it out first. Why then would you want to do just that with the Windows registry ? (I am not including CCleaner in that category.) Always make a registry backup. Never use registry cleaners. http://www.larsheder...nline.de/erunt/ http://www.softpedia.../ERUNTgui.shtml http://smartregistry.tk/
Lamb Chop
John - thanks - I do have Revo Uninstall and currently have the Pro version for 20 days and used it to force uninstall IDM which the Firewall Online Armour had blocked and somehow not installed correctly. Mind you just reinstalled a fresh version and it didnt pick up the download from Firefox although the add on needed is enabled. So will have to see why which means I email the suppprt team as it is a paid version - comes in handy paying when support is needed B) . Use Revo in advanced too so will not in future use Registry cleaner part of Ccleaner as advised and just let the two do their workfor me. I will also download Erunt - I did have it - forget if I told you - lost my connections some time back ( couple of years) and last tech who had his hands on my computer - took off all of the programs I had on it security and lots of others bringing it back with out of date AVG free which he said wouldnt update and I found because it was old version and got rid of it and want back to Avast and SAS etc forgot Erunt. So thanks for reminder. Saw it in my old notebook but hadnt made a note what I had used it for so didnt install again. What I am finding amazing is that Windows XP Home circa 2008 now is looking different and must be updates also programsare working heaps better - same version but works and looks different - must have been one sick computer I have been using. :D
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
I have used Ccleaner for years and regularly use the registry cleaner, and have never had a problem. While this may be true in your case, as well as thousands of other CCleaner user, I am also a regular in the Piriform forums. You won't believe how many times we see angry posts like "I have just run CCleaner, and now Everything Is Gone!!!" Naturally, none of these people have a backup...
