DrJames
Hi There!! I'm definitely new to this and I'll be going to college in the fall and I am wondering what I need to get or what would be recommended. No computers are required at my particular school, but recommended. I will be majoring in Psychology and Chemistry if that aids you in your responses. I use my current computer for light photo editing, heavy internet use, movie and television streaming, music creating and editing and I use it as my entertainment hub. I'd like to know what you'd suggest I have for a college setup. I think I want a desktop in my dorm and a laptop for on the go. I already have a tablet and I absolutely love it. I'll also be using that. So any spec recommendations on Desktops and Laptops/Notebooks would be highly appreciated. Thanks in Advance. (Keep in mind, I am really new to this, so if you could dumb it down, that'd be awesome!) (:
-pops-
My recommendation is to get the best you can afford - whether that be desktop, laptop or tablet the choice is entirely what you feel comfortable with. All modern machines will cope easily with what it seems you want to do and I think your success in this will come with the software that you load. Regarding software, your college will be able to recommend what fits in with their curriculum. One freebie I can recommend for chemistry is from http://www.acdlabs.com/home/ Make sure you download the free versions, though!

bludgard
Anything that will run a word processor will do. I started my recent online courses with a dumpster orphan: 1.0GHz @ 256MB memory. Someone had bled on the memory modules .The tablet should be capable of performing calculations in proper format with apropriate app(s).Good luck. Keep us updated as to how you get on, ok? :)
