tdeg
Hello and thank you for looking at this post.I would like to send and received faxes with the fax console in Windows XP. This has been fine on other occassions some years ago but now does not work. The telephone line has a dial tone but the PC will not pick up the line either to send or to receive faxes. Everything else is fine. The fax modem just will not hear the line, it will not "pick up the line" like when picking up a telephone, neither to send a fax nor to answer an incoming fax.An AOL dial up software has been using the fax modem most recently. The AOL software has been removed but still the fax console will not work as described.Any solutions?Thank you.
Belatucadrus
First thought is to go to Control Panel / Phone & modem options then look at the Dialing rules & Modem tabs and see if there's anything obviously wrong. If not go to Modem Properties , General & Diagnostics and run the query modem check & troubleshooter.
tdeg
Thank you for you reply. There is one reply of many on the diagnostics tab which replies not available, or similar. The laptop is not here right now so cannot post the details.Apart from that everything else is checked and set correctly, all options set appropriately. The problem is that the fax console will not pick up the line to sned or to receive. The "ignore dial tone / don't wait for tone" tab has been tried on both settings.
Belatucadrus
Well in that case the only other quick check I can suggest is open The Fax Console go to Tools / Configure Fax and run through the Fax Configuration Wizard checking all the details are correct and that the right modem is selected as your Fax device. bludgard
If the exact make and model of the laptop can be provided; it (the modem) may just need a driver update from manufacturer or website of laptop. Could be a bummed modem.Any strange symbols showing in Device Manager?
