pharoe
:help: I have just installed a firewall on my desktop which runs on Win98, and I keep getting the following popup.Application Windows IPX/SPX-Compatible Protocol Driver has been blocked, File name is NWLINK.VXDI asked one of the guys where I work, who works in IT, and he said he couldn't understand why I had that application on my machine, and that I should block it. But I'm not so sure. Any advise would be welcome.

Guest nellie2
Ellas is right......... it is something to do with networking or connections. Perhaps he can decipher this for you.The Microsoft Internetwork Packet Exchange/Sequenced Packet Exchange (IPX/SPX) – compatible protocol (nwlink.vxd) supports the 32-bit Windows Sockets 1.1 programming interface, so that any Win32-based Windows Sockets 1.1 application can run on IPX/SPX with Windows 98. (There are no 16-bit Windows Sockets applications using IPX/SPX.)Scource
Agent Smith
IPX/SPX is just one of many available networking protocols like TCP/IP, NetBEUI or Apple Talk. It is most commonly found and used on Novell networks. For a home computer, or even a home LAN, it is not required, so I would go ahead and block the application. To be honest, the only protocol you should ever need at home, is TCP/IP. On that basis, it would be wise to check what protocols you have installed on your connections, and remove any extra ones.Regards. Mr. Mouse.
