Windows 2000 Program Problems!

Recommended Posts

When opening some programs the program jams for 30seconds or so before opening the file or the program. For example note pad opening a tiny text document it can take up to a minute to open. where on my other slower computer ( P2 ) also running win2000 it will open the same file instantly. i have done virus scans with latest virus updates and has come up clean. any suggestions?

Which programs ? Any specific programs or all in general ?

What does task manager say about processes running ?

Do you have disk indexing enabled?

Do you have find fast enabled ?

Have you run an antitrojan check ?

Have you checked for spyware ?

Have you tried an online virus check ?

Go to here download the Msconfig2000 file (link on page ), follow the instructions to install and disable the programs you don't need starting automatically.

Welcome to WF, outcast.

Gentlemen, Mr. Mods, can we bring this to the forefront for just a post or two. ? I personally think that a question like outcast's here is crying out for a link to the Pitstop Tech. Express so that everyone can see outcast's specs and possibly problems. No-one seems to use that facility. It matters not one jot to me but I'd just like to know why not. Is there some problem with the Pit ?

Is there some problem with the Pit ?

Of course not Moon............. we just need to be reminded every now and then. :)

Outcast, Moon has made a good suggestion, why not nip over to the Pit and do the tests...... when you are done then post the link to your results here or you may want to ask the guys at PC Pitstop about your test results. PC Pitstop and Windows Forum are buddies and a few of us trip quite happily between the two sites.

Here is the link.....please feel free to ask any questions.
