AlanHo
I am experiencing significant slow-downs and occasional freezing when multi-tasking since I swapped my C: System drive from a Samsung F1 250 MB HDD to a Crucial V4 128 MB SSD. I did not clone the new drive from the previous HDD, but installed Windows 7 and all my software from scratch. The computer is very fast to boot or load and use any single programme – but if I have a download running in the background such as Windows update, a security scan or photo editing – the system grinds almost to a halt when I try and use another programme like MS Office. This did not happen when I used a HDD for my C: System drive. I have a CPU and Memory usage gadget running on my desktop and this shows low usage when the problem occurs - using task manager to look at processses also shows zero cpu usage against all the processes listed. I have carried out a thorough check for malware and I have run sfc scannow and CCleaner without revealing any anomolies. What next? MANEMAN
I think what I would be doing if that were mine Alan, is to do a disk image as it is now, transfer that image over onto a conventional drive and see if similar problems arise. If they do arise you can put it down to an operating system fault which you could then start to diagnose. If the problem disappears you could perhaps be looking at read/write errors with the SSDCheck at the Crucial site to see if there are any firmware updates available for this particular drive.Crucial do not themselves do any diagnostic or benchmarking tools for their drives as far as I am aware. You could try the following links to take you to sites where SSD benchmarking and testing tools are available.http://crystalmark.i...fo/index-e.html or http://www.windows7d...k/jhjtgqiu.htmlhttp://alex-is.de/PH...p?download_id=9Have a look at this link also: http://www.xtremesys...orage-UtilitiesYou could look at this page to get some sort of comparison details (Although your drive unfortunately is not listed)http://www.hdtune.com/testresults.htmlAnd this page is a "Must Read" before starting benchmarking SSD's: http://www.overclock...sd-benchmarkingIt is generally accepted now that CHKDSK can be run on SSD's without any problems. So there is another avenue. After all of that I expect you are going to tell us that it only happens when you turn the immersion heater on. :)John. AlanHo
I took a look at the benchmarking tools but chickened out of running any that carried out a write activity because of the limited number of wites that SSD cells can be subjected to.I eventually ran HDTUNE 2.55 free which is devoid of write activity and got the following result :-Windows Experience Index - Hard Disk score: 6.9HDTUNE: Minimum 181.3, Maximum 224.8, Average 202.4, 0.1 ms, 172.3 Burst.Googling for the results from others indicates that this result is about average for a 128 GB SSD but is not spectacular. For me average is good - it means half the World is worse off than me.Thinking back - when I first installed the SSD I cannot recall noticing a problem - so something has crept up on me. I s'pose a repair install of Windows might be the next step.

Gman13
I have SSD disk with Windows 7 and never had any problems with it. Limited number of writes shouldn't be problem because average user needs 20 years to reach that number.
AlanHo
Picking up where I left off.I have now exhausted just about every suggestion I received from posting my SSD problem on some technical forums.I had one final try last week - I formatted the SSD again and installed Windows 7 and my software from scratch - after ascertaning it was all working at warp speed I took a full Acronis back-up.I then used the computer for a few days and was slowly hit by the same problems with the computer running slower and slower, refusing to multi-task and occasionally locking solid. So I did an Acronis restore onto the SSD expecting the computer to start again nicely refreshed and running at warp speed. It didn't - the damned thing was just as bad.I have removed the SSD and gone back to a conventional hard drive and all is well again. It now takes a minute longer to boot compared with when the SSD was at its best - but who cares!!.
