AlanHo Posted January 12, 2013 Report Share Posted January 12, 2013 Suddenly- and for no reason I know of - our TV when we used Freeview - started playing an audio description commentary superimposed on the normal sound track on some programmes. You would be watching a play and suddenly the voice would say things like "Fred jumps over the fence" in sync with an actor doing just that.I had no idea what it was all about until I did a bit of googling to discover it is for the benefit of the partially sighted - so that they know what is happening on the screen as they listen to the sound track.I looked in the TV manual which revealed that the AD setting (audio description) could be toggled on and off with a button on the remote marked "AD". I've been wondering what that button was for. However it had no effect and the irritating AD intrusion continued unabated.I eventually solved the problem by plodding my way through all the TV and freeview menus to find an AD on/off setting hiding within a menu headed "Languages"I still don't know what caused the blip - but I thought I would mention it just in case any of you guys hit the same problem.Conversely - if you didn't know before - you now know the facility exists in case you should require it.Google tells me that at present only about 20% of all programmes have this feature - so don't expect it all the time. We are getting fed up week after week watching that bloody maniac jumping over the pews. It's no small wonder that Aled Jones hasn't lamped him before now. -pops- Posted January 12, 2013 Report Share Posted January 12, 2013 If the person using the television cannot see what is happening on the screen wouldn't it be better (and cheaper - no licence fee) to use a device without the vision facility e.g. a radio?Also, isn't rather difficult for a person unable to see to be able to locate the "AD" or, indeed, any other button on a remote control? I didn't earn any house points from management because it took me a few hours to get rid of it - even then only after googling for solutions.I had tried the settings menu before - but never thought the answer would be a sub menu of 'Languages'....Doh...........
