Odd road traffic question

I haven't noticed any additional crossings being built in our area (Solihull). I have to admit that I am not sure about the exact difference between a Zebra crossing and a Bolisha beacon.

I assume that the Zebra reference is the stripes painted on the road and the Bolisha Beacon is the striped pole with the amber globe on top situated at each kerb.

I do know that a Pelican crossing is one with pedestrian controlled traffic lights.

However this might provide a clue.

The son of one of my friends works for a civil contractor who carry out most of their work for public bodies and local authorities. They are currently working round the clock to get a flood of extra work completed before April 6th which is the end of the public authority financial year. Councils, schools, hospitals etc who find that they have not exhausted all their 2012/13 building and maintenance budgets are desperate to spend spend spend to use the budget up by the end of the financial year - otherwise next year's budget will be reduced. It's a damned disgrace.
