Alan2273
Until a few days ago I did not know about the option for a refresh in Windows 8, but after doing it on my nephews 6 week old laptop that had a problem with IE, it worked with no problems. If I had to describe what it does, I would say it is the XP/Vista/7, repair install with a different name, as it reinstalls the OS but leaves your data untouched. AlanHo
Dumb question Refresh leaves documents alone - but what about all the software installed after Win8 was first installed?. Do you have to install over again. If so - I will stick with restoring my latest weekly Acronis back-up of my C: drive..
MANEMAN
It would seem that sticking to the well tried and tested means of getting an operating system back up ASAP (Re: Acronis) are probably the best Alan. :) However with a case like Alan 2273's Nephew, where not much chance of getting to the stage of making a system backup were possible, Microsoft have come up with a few nifty ideas to get you back on the road fairly quickly. - Which is why I posted the guides in the first place. It has taken me 45 minutes to make this post. Is the server under a DOS attack or something ? John.
