Guest Shirley_Crabtree
I'll compare Opera to IE6 for the sake of it....I've read the threads where Opera users accuse IE6 users of being stupid....They claim that Opera is a lot faster for browsing...this might be true....BUT...It seems to me that Opera shows web-pages without refreshing....This WILL speed-up browsing but won't show the latest content...am I missing something here?Opera SEEMS quick but does it deliver the latest goods??Cheers.Shirl. Boris
Opera 6 was "quick" but with the upgrade cost of 6 to 7, I've gone back to my old favourite SlimBrowser ! :D - thats my current choice for all round usability.
Guest Shirley_Crabtree
I'm actually testing Opera against Slimbrowser and Opera is losing badly

Guest Shirley_Crabtree
Stick with IE!Would you like to expand on your reasons on a purely scientific basis?
Guest Shirley_Crabtree
It seems to me that Opera is just another piece of over-touted rubbish...No-need to use it..it does what other browsers do.
Chris
Stick with IE!Would you like to expand on your reasons on a purely scientific basis? Opera has the tabbed windows which is nice Only one opera window open (main) taskbar keeps nice and neat. However I do not like switching from one tab to another - it just does not suit my surfing. The password Wizard is the same as IE's but jazzed up.The auto fillin thing is also nice but as Google toolbar has the samething i just use the google one...As well as googles search with a right click in IE. YOU CAN'T BEAT THAT.IE is showing its age..Opera has the effects on the buttons on the top which is a nice piece of "effect"To page loading i find is more or the less the same on both IE and opera. "The fastest browser on earth" or something like that, well i', sorry but in my expereince...It lied to me!
doug
This may or may not be relevant but when I was pounding on doors demanding "gimme me money or your life" last week I said to one chap that I'd done a few notes regarding My Great North Run. He dashed in-doors and came out with a laptop. When he loaded up my website - Well you know the little jogging gif at the front, it was running so fast the feet were a blur. I said I didn't run that fast and he said "oh thats probably because it's running Opera". He then loaded IE and sure enough There I was running at normal speed. so he kept tabbing between one and the other. I said I was really impressed and his wife said Oh she must go and fire up her laptop. I said "wireless?"and he said "Is there anything but".
moon
Doubl-click any word in Opera and you've got a translation link, a dictionary or an encyclopaedia.
Guest nellie2
i am jumping between slimbrowser, avant browser and opera at the moment. I like the tabbed interface and I couldn't use a browser with out it now. The only thing which is letting opera down at the mo is a lack of spell checker for the browser although I am sure there is one... just can't find it. :(
moon
I don't think there is, nellie. A lot of clutter would bloat it. Here's an online one which might prove useful in conjunction with Opera.http://www.spellcheck.net/PS. I've just tried it and added it to my Opera links. Cool. Accurate, provides alternatives and saves h/d space. B)
