Partitioning

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm not really very knowledgable about computers but thought I would have a go at installing Linux alongside my WindowsXP Home OS. I've done my reading andknow what to do in theory.

I have a 38GB hard disc with one primary partition (with 33 GB free space) and 16 MB of unallocated space.

My question - how do I partition my hard disc without destroying my existing files before trying to install Linux (SuSE 8.1)?

Don

Ah Powerless, why won't XP play ball in this case?

...because you have XP on the one and only partition.

XP will not allow you to mess about with its own partition.

If you were to reformat the drive create two partitons at setup.

Install XP to one and leave Linux for the other.
