peacedog
Hello,I'm not really very knowledgable about computers but thought I would have a go at installing Linux alongside my WindowsXP Home OS. I've done my reading andknow what to do in theory.I have a 38GB hard disc with one primary partition (with 33 GB free space) and 16 MB of unallocated space. My question - how do I partition my hard disc without destroying my existing files before trying to install Linux (SuSE 8.1)?Don
mark2
I've found partition magic excellent for resizing and creating partitions without destroying data, I believe XP will create partitions too but have never used it to do so. Chris
XP can create partitions but not in this case.
peacedog
Thanks Mark. How do I get hold of partition magic? If XP will do its own partitioning I'd love to know how.
peacedog
Ah Powerless, why won't XP play ball in this case?
mark2
Partition magic websitePM7 will work with XP, may be able to find it on Amazon.Have heard about other partitioning tools but never tried them Paragon Ranish
Chris
Ah Powerless, why won't XP play ball in this case?...because you have XP on the one and only partition.XP will not allow you to mess about with its own partition. If you were to reformat the drive create two partitons at setup.Install XP to one and leave Linux for the other.
