Lamb Chop
12 times to date it has tried to update this one item. Tried again tonight on shut down and booted up to see if it had succeeded but no. Cant think what to do have tried all the window help and support sites nothing about how to get rid of this as I didn't need it as already had downloaded IE 11 beta as the IE 10 that came with the upgrade just simply unstable and would shut down all the time. Mind you I think I may well have problems as since I upgraded and running below see system criteria , said OK for W7 but I am wondering if it is OK like now 1 window open but get more going and all start to say hot responding even task master - it goes not responding too. Someone said it may need 2Gb is RAM. And faster CPU, could be Gizmo. So how do I stop it trying to install when plainly never going to after a dozen tries. I have altered it back to ask me and I will etc instead of auto. Actually had set that as never like auto but suspect last update altered it back as often seem to find settings different after monthly update. Gandalph
Did you disable your Firewall before trying the update. If not, try it. It may be that is causing the upgrade problem. Just a thought.

It may be that is causing the upgrade problem. Just a thought. No I will give it a go. I just did a restore back to before the critical update of ie11 ( critical don't use it and would dump it if not part of system) anyway didn't work, just had to lose time updating programs that had already over the several days I went back. Still getting the no responding too often and like now typing and it appears around 9 characters after finishing typing and nothing downloading on meter. Think will have to do something re system - find out if can update this one or cheaper to buy new tower.
Lamb Chop
OK I exited my firewall and nothing happened looked at shut down still had the shied reminder re installing at shut down etc. Then had a brain wave Remembered that I had updated all my drivers before upgrading the system to Windows 7 but had not run Driver Genius since. So did and with firewall off it was a lot quicker thanks :D - and had 51 drivers updated. So maybe that is what was slowing me down time will tell BUT yippee - installing IE11 gone too - mystery but that nasty little gremlin had altered back my updated to auto download and install. When I had oput them back to tell me and I will decide to download and install. So put it back and then WinPatrol told me alteration etc but didnt notice that gremlin that was also in previous OS when it comes to updating - methinks they have a bit of a line in there that checks if on auto and if not just puts it back. Not had any slow down on typing mind you nothing downloading either. Crossing fingers. And I did put firewall back up ha ha. See ideas here are worth their weight in gold. :D
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
From where are you downloading the update? I updated a few days ago without any problems; I used the "non-enhanced" version from http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/download-ie-MCM When you run the update, do you get any messages other than to restart Windows? When you restart Windows, does it do some rather lengthy update process during startup?
Lamb Chop
Pat it downloaded itself direct fm M$ - I usually check to see if I have not got it on auto as seems like every time it updates it alters itself back to auto which downloads. Then on boot up says ready and I install them, sometimes though on shut down updates still there, so either didn't install or new maybe and then it says don't power down etc and installs and shuts down my computer. Then on boot often it configures. Doesn't take that long to configure but usually walk away and do something else on boot or leave it and come back at bedtime to switch off at wall. With IE 11, I had IE10 which came with Windows 7 thought it corrupted so downloaded IE11 from Windows Update. Just had a look at IE11 and for umpteenth times I have to try to get it to not put up Yahoo as my page - keep it About Blank but like auto it cant stop making a nuisance of itself which is why I dont use the new versions since 8. Anyway it is 11.0.9600.16411 and has a update release preview KB2879017 now no idea if that is what they are trying to install but usually if it is old then the new should install over the top with M$ browsers. Maddening just trying to get what version and cant get it to stay open called it back again and again Yahoo home page even though clicked on dont allow change it did obviously - and then so used to just getting rid of a tab in FF by clicking off the tab I dont need, usually leave new tab up and anyway if you make a mistake FF asks closing 2 tabs etc. But with these new IE's10 & 11 got 2 tabs open all the time and click off the second and off goes the whole browser. Bet I am not the only one that does that and may get used to it in time but use Firefox or Opera to read newspapers as the IE tab in latest versions of FF unstable too - get IE plug crashed etc. So got opera for those sites that need IE to display. And its new 16+ version is very good too. Still got nag message to update to 11 but 13 times failed to install so far. Reluctant to try again. Simply to stop the nag. PS scrolling via M$ trying to solve problem noticed IE 11 is for W8 - maybe that is why not installing on W7 ?
