Need to Delete Acronis Backups Twice?

Recommended Posts

I'm very worried about this.

I have some Acronis "True Image" Backups on a External drive.

I needed to delete one of them.

So I opened the Acronis software from its icon & right clicked/delete onto the backup I wanted to get rid of.

The file, or should I say the entry, was deleted from the Acronis screen.

However on opening up the external drive I noted that the file was still there.

I deleted this from the External drive but is this correct that you have to take a double action to delete a Acronis backup?

Odd that you bring this up now - this afternoon I've noticed almost the same thing.

Checking my backup drive I noticed the earliest backup (the grandfather one) that I had just deleted via Acronis delete was still present on the disk although in an attenuated form (6GB instead of the full 40GB (ish) that it should have been).

Never noticed, or had, this before today. I will look into it in due course.

Oh dear, perhaps there is a problem, I'm using the Acronis WD version.

Sad to say I did not look at size of the file on my external drive before deleting.

Please keep me posted if you find out anything.

Perhaps other Acronis users could do a delete & see if they have similar situations

I wouldn't worry too much about it. The chances of having to deploy grandfather (if that what it was) backups is extremely remote.

Provided your latest backup is good then you should be OK.

Yes I agree, but it seems that there is a problem within Acronis which allows a file (or a fragment of it) to remain after a deletion.

Think it would be good if Users posted their comments/experiences.

Anyway I deleted the file from my external drive to keep things in order

Have completed another Backup using Acronis WD version & have deleted the old "Grandfather"

Before doing so I noted its size on the external drive, 39.5 Gb, & looking on the Acronis screen it advised that the size was 39.55 Gb

I deleted by clicking on the gear wheel on the Acronis screen & then clicked right "Delete"

After doing this I looked at the External drive data which showed that the Grandfather Folder still existed but on investigation (going into Properties) I found the size to be 0 Gb.

Question:- Is this a normal situation when deleting Acronis Backups?
